The gothic rock band known as Bauhaus formed in England in 1978. Their name comes from an old German art school known as The Staatliches Bauhaus which opened in 1919. The school was shut down by the Nazi regime in 1933. The band Bauhaus broke up in 1983, but have attempted to reunite on several occasions.

Bauhaus released the song "Bela Lugosi's Dead" as a single in 1979. Bela Lugosi (1882-1956) was a Hungarian born actor who immigrated to the United States. His most famous role was that of Count Dracula in the film "Dracula" released in 1931. He also had various other roles in horror films during the 1930's, 1940's and early 1950's.

The song "Ziggy Stardust" was first released by David Bowie in 1972. It was listed as one of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" by "Rolling Stone" magazine. Bauhaus released their cover of "Ziggy Stardust" as a single in 1982. Despite being a cover song, "Ziggy Stardust" helped to enhance Bauhaus' popularity.

The song "Double Dare" was featured on Bauhaus' first album "In the Flat Field" in 1980. "Double Dare" was also the name of a Nickelodeon game show which aired from 1986-1993. Two teams would compete against each other by answering trivia questions and competing in various and often messy physical challenges. The show was originally hosted by Marc Summers.

The Bauhaus song "Mask" was released on the album of the same name in 1981. The cover of the album was designed by Bauhaus' guitarist Daniel Ash. The music video for "Mask" was filmed in an old abandoned warehouse and features very horrific images, such as a man with a distorted face and another man rising up from a corpse-like state.

Bauhaus would reunite on several occasions since 1983, mostly to do concerts using their old material. In 2008, the band released a new album entitled, "Go Away White". Unfortunately, it would be the band's final album, as the band would break up once again following its release.

Murphy's Law states, "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". The lead singer for Bauhaus was Peter Murphy. Following Bauhaus' initial breakup in 1983, Murphy would move on to a solo career. Daniel Ash was Bauhaus' guitarist. Kevin Haskins was the drummer and his brother David J. Haskins was their bassist.

While Bauhaus may have had a short run as a band, their music served as an inspiration for the goth genre, especially for bands such as Type O Negative and Marilyn Manson.
