Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This rhythm section, Boz Burrell (bass) and Simon Kirke (drums), recorded the group's debut, self-titled album in 1974.

Answer: Bad Company

Bad Company is most widely known for the voice of the band's lead singer, Paul Rodgers.
2. Jack Bruce (bass) and Ginger Baker (drums) recorded this power trio's first album in 1966, called "Fresh Cream".

Answer: Cream

The most well known person in Cream is, of course, Eric "Slow Hand" Clapton. Jack and Ginger were instrumental in the success of Cream.
3. This band's debut, self-titled album appeared in 1970. Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) were the rhythm section for this album.

Answer: Black Sabbath

Often heralded as the original heavy metal band, Sabbath's metal sound was driven by this rhythm section as much as the guitar works of Tony Iommi and the vocals of the madman, Ozzy Osbourne.
4. The first album of this band was originally released in 1972 and was self-titled. The rhythm section for the band at that time consisted of Chuck Panozzo (bass) and John Panozzo (drums).

Answer: Styx

John and Chuck Panozzo were the original rhythm section for Styx, and stayed with the band until John died in 1996. Chuck still plays with the band.
5. Released in 1965, this band's first album had a different title and song list when released in the UK versus the USA. In either case, John Entwistle (bass) and Keith Moon (drums) were the rhythm section at that time.

Answer: The Who

Keith tragically died in 1978 at the age of 32. His original replacement was Kenny Jones of the Faces.
6. Their self-title debut album went to #43 on the charts when it was released in 1984. Alec John Such (bass) and Tico Torres (drums) made up the rhythm section of this 80's Hair Band.

Answer: Bon Jovi

Alec was "fired" from the band after the Cross Roads album in 1994. He has not been officially replaced although Hugh McDonald plays on the current tours and albums.
7. March, 1974 was the release date of this band's debut album. Geddy Lee (bass) and John Rutsey (drums) made up the driving rhythm section.

Answer: Rush

John was unwilling to tour after releasing their first album, so Neil Peart replaced him and became their permanent drummer. Neil also writes the majority of the lyrics for their songs.
8. In July of 1962, this band first performed with their original rhythm section. However, Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums) soon became the members who would record the band's debut album.

Answer: Rolling Stones

Dick Taylor and Tony Chapman filled the rhythm section roles when the Stones first formed. Later, they were replaced by Wyman and Watts and recorded their first album.
9. Signed by Columbia Records, this band released their self-titled debut album in 1975. Ross Valory (bass) and Aynsley Dunbar (drums) were the rhythm section for that album.

Answer: Journey

Aynsley was not the first, last, nor the most well known drummer in the early years of Journey. He was the drummer for their first album, however. Soon after, he was replaced by Steve "Machine Gun" Smith, who is on most of Journey's most known albums.
10. Finally, this band's self-titled debut album was released in 1969 and the cover was a picture of the Hindenburg disaster. John Paul Jones (bass) and John Bonham (drums) made up the pounding rhythm section for this album.

Answer: Led Zeppelin

While mostly known by the front men, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, this duo arguably created the most solid rhythm section known in the era.
