Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band contained sisters with the surname "Deal"?

Answer: The Breeders

Kim and Kelley Deal were in the Breeders together. Kim was obviously in the Pixies and led the Amps. Kelley headed up her own project The Kelley Deal 6000.
2. In which town in the English county of Somerset was PJ Harvey born ?

Answer: Yeovil

She was born on 9th October 1969 and grew up on a sheep farm.
3. Which legendary BBC Radio One DJ died on 26th October 2004?

Answer: John Peel

John Peel was BBC Radio One's longest serving DJ at the time of his death. His eclectic tastes and refusal to conform to any play list have insured he become one of the most influential and well loved DJs ever. He was way ahead of his time and helped launch the careers of many bands.

It's well known that his favourite record of all time was 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones. In my mind he was the best DJ the UK has ever had and I will miss his broadcast sorely. Everett died in 1995 and Dave Lee Travis (or DLT as he's known) and Tony Blackburn are still alive.
4. "Can't you see what you've done to my heart" are lyrics from which song?

Answer: 'Slow Hands' by Interpol

From the album 'Antics'.
5. Which band has released a single titled "Johnny Cash" and a mini album called "Love the Cup"?

Answer: Sons and Daughters

Sons and Daughters are:
Adele Bethel - Vocals, guitar, piano
David Gow - Drums, Percussion
Ailidh Lennon - Bass, mandolin, piano
Scott Paterson - Vocals, guitar
They are friends with Franz Ferdinand, are also Scottish and are also great-all hail the new Scottish invasion!
6. Unitard, who appeared on the 2003 compilation 'Yes New York', are actually most of which band ?

Answer: Yeah Yeah Yeah's

Unitard was an early incarnation of Yeah Yeah Yeah's. 'Yes New York' was named after 'No New York' the 1978 compilation of New York rock produced by Brian Eno. 'Yes New York' also features Radio 4, The Strokes and Interpol as well as Le Tigre and The Rapture. The Killers are from Las Vegas and are not featured on the compilation.
7. Who remixed the Beatles' 'White Album' with Jay-Z's 'Black Album' to create the 'Grey Album' ?

Answer: DJ Danger Mouse

EMI have tried to ban the distribution of this album and it has never officially been released. However many websites have hosted the album for download and early in 2004 a large number got together and held 'Grey Tuesday' a day where websites showed their support of the album by posting it or by turning their websites grey for the day. Danger Mouse himself didn't have anything to do with all the commotion, preferring to stay out of the limelight.

The album however has hit over 1,000000 downloads which would equate to the most amount of people owning an album that was never officially released as of 2004.
8. Which former NME hack criticised Manic Street Preachers in 1991, causing Richey Edwards to carve "4 Real" into his arm with a razor?

Answer: Steve Lamacq

The incident is rated number Eight in NME.com's 100 Rock Moments. As most of you will know, Richey Edwards disappeared in February 1995 and was never seen again. With Richey in the band, the Manics were not the overblown MOR rock group they are today. On May 15, 1991, after their show at the Norwich Arts Centre, Richey Edwards took NME journalist Steve Lamacq aside for a quiet word. "I was talking to Steve for an hour to explain ourselves," Edwards later explained. "He saw us as four hero-worshipping kids trying to replicate our favourite bands.

There was no way I could change his mind. I didn't abuse him or insult him, I just cut myself. To show we were no gimmick, that we are pissed off, that we are for real." Nobody was more shocked than Lamacq himself, who helped call an ambulance to Norwich General Hospital.
9. Which DJs also record their own music as Soulwax?

Answer: 2 Many DJs

'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2' is the only mix officially released by 2 Many DJs as of November 2004, the other parts are available somewhere on the internet as bootlegs. As Soulwax they have released 'Leave the Story Untold' (1996), 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' (1998) and 'Any Minute Now' (2004) so far. They are from Belgium.
10. Which band contains members called Ana Matronic and BabyDaddy ?

Answer: Scissor Sisters

The Scissor Sisters are Jake Shears, Ana Matronic, BabyDaddy, Paddy Boom and Del Marquis though, somehow, I don't think those are their real names.
