Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I can remember the hit "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, but that's not what was bothering me. What Queen song did he (illegally) sample in the hit?

Answer: "Under Pressure"

Ah, yes. His argument against the accusations? He added a small beat after the part he sampled. Of course, that didn't stop "Ice Ice Baby" from being a huge huge hit.
2. This guy had these crazy pants! He sampled Rick James' best known song in HIS best known song. Who is he and what song?

Answer: MC Hammer, "U Can't Touch This"

Shortly after the phenomenal success of his first album (as well as the phenomenal failure of his second album, "2 Legit 2 Quit"), MC Hammer declared bankruptcy. He's now a minister. He would later appear on "The Surreal Life".
3. I used to remember laughing at the antics of those wacky "Friends". And signaling the start of the show was that song by the Rembrandts. Ooh...I can't remember what it's called...

Answer: "I'll Be There For You"

The Rembrandts' only successful song was the theme from the hit show "Friends".

Interesting side note: "Six In One" was one of the suggested titles for the show.
4. Sometimes I get actresses and songstresses mixed up. Which one of these teen queens has released an album?

Answer: All of them

Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, and Raven-Symone have all graced us with critically-dismissed albums. Yet that didn't stop Lohan or Duff from releasing even more albums.
5. OK, I can remember doing the "Macarena" back in the late 90's. What I can't remember is the English translation of the group's name. What was it again?

Answer: "Those from the river"

Los Del Rio (which translates to "those from the river") performed "Macarena", which performed a then unheard-of feat: staying on the charts for 60 weeks. "Macarena" was also named the greatest one-hit wonder of all time.
6. The only thing I can remember about this artist is that he left in mid-concert to become a minister.

Answer: Little Richard

In the middle of a concert in Australia, Little Richard walked off the stage and promptly joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (he also slashed his wrists and threw away all his jewelry). He still carries his minister's license to this day.
7. I can't remember this guy's name! But I do remember that when he won the Oscar for Best Song, everyone was afraid he'd cause a scene. However, he shocked his critics by not even showing up to accept the award. What artist was it?

Answer: Eminem

Eminem was known for both his rowdy antics and straight up non-attendance at various awards shows. However, when "Lose Yourself" won for Best Song, Luis Resto accepted the statue on his behalf.
8. While we're still on the Oscars, I can't remember this other guy's name! He had an Oscar-nominated song (which had the same name as the movie), but he wasn't considered popular enough at the time, so someone else sang his song. The song didn't win, but he went on to greater fame. Who was it?

Answer: Phil Collins

At the 1984 Academy Awards, Phil Collins' song "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)" was nominated. He wasn't considered famous enough at the time, though, so he didn't sing it at the Oscar telecast, someone else did. This angered a number of his fans.
9. Man, I love some of that surf music. I'm gonna rip a few tracks from my Beach Boys CDs...but I can't remember who did what. What song was NOT originally performed by the Beach Boys?

Answer: "Surf City"

"Surf City" was sung by Jan and Dean. The other three were indeed Beach Boys songs.

Interesting side note: The Beach Boys DID write "Surf City", but they gave it to Jan and Dean.
10. Hey, thanks. You've really helped me remember a lot today. I just can't remember this one thing...what did Ashlee Simpson blame her poor "SNL" performance on?

Answer: Acid reflux disease

When Ashlee Simpson appeared on "Saturday Night Live", it was revealed that she was lip-synching. She later blamed it on acid reflux disease.
