Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My daughter, a huge fan of ear worms, asked for a song about them, called "Inside My Head". Can you identify the Canadian act who recorded this insipid little number?

Answer: The Arrogant Worms

This is actually a song about Ear Worms! No, really! And, I promise you, it qualifies as one itself! It may be a little hard to find, but it is well worth the effort!
2. Lauren wanted to hear a song about the night a city was devastated! Which city did Paper Lace sing about?

Answer: Chicago

"The Night Chicago Died" is a fictional account of a gangster shoot-out in the late '20's. Paper Lace was a British group, who also gave us "Billy, Don't Be A Hero", bless them!
3. Ron really likes this song by Big Dee Irwin and Little Eva! He asks for it every year! Which children's song, first recorded by Bing Crosby, is it?

Answer: Swinging On A Star

This was originally in the film "Going My Way". I'm pretty sure being a mule wouldn't be as bad as all that!
4. My friend Carol proudly states in her request that this is her favorite Elton John song! Really? Well, at least he got the Beach Boys to sing with him, so that's something. Can you imagine what it is?

Answer: Crocodile Rock

The Beach Boys also recorded their own version of this song on a fantastic tribute album to Elton John and Bernie Taupin called "Two Rooms". If you don't know it, you should! The other choices aren't bad as Ear Worms either!
5. Someone always asks for this song. The problem is, I don't know which one they want! The younger ones want one from the 80s, and the, ahem, more mature ones want one from 1970! Which two songs, with the same title, do they want?

Answer: Our House

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young recorded this in 1970, on their "Deja Vu" album. Graham Nash wrote it for Joni Mitchell, and Joni wrote "My Old Man" for Graham! I learned this from a book called "Girls Like Us" by Sheila Weller, which is amazing! Madness recorded a very different song of the same title in 1982, and it charted in the United States in early 1983. I can always tell which one a listener wants by how old they are!
6. I hate getting caught in the rain, and Pina Coladas have coconut in them, but Linda always wants to hear this silly song that sings their praises! Who recorded it, and what is it called?

Answer: "Escape", by Rupert Holmes

Don't get me started on this one! The couple in this song is just headed for trouble! The other three are real songs, and Eddie Rabbit's song could well find its way onto the show one of these years!
7. Dougie loves this song by The Proclaimers, and he's right, it definitely qualifies as an Ear Worm of the first order! Walking is a fine thing, but how far, according to the title of the song, would those crazy Scottish brothers walk?

Answer: 1000 miles

"I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more..." This is a great, happy little love song! Only be careful! I once told my husband I'd love to haver to him, thinking it must mean something like cuddling. Turns out, it means to fuss or fight! Oops!
8. Sometimes I require my listeners to either sing along or get up and dance. This song that Ben wants to hear is a required sing-along, with optional, but highly recommended dancing! What institution are we celebrating along with the Village People?

Answer: Y.M.C.A.

Come on now, aren't you sort of moving a little and tapping your feet? "The Village Green Preservation Society" was recorded by the Kinks, and is a great song in its own right!
9. It's happened every year so far. Someone just has to hear this song about a building in the UK. This year, it is both Justin and Marcia, and Justin wants to know how he makes his voice do that! What celebrated edifice do my crazy listeners just love the New Vaudeville Band to sing about?

Answer: Winchester Cathedral

"Darby's Castle" is a song by Kris Kristofferson, which is really good, but not well-known enough for true Ear Worm status. Unlike "Winchester Cathedral", which will forever be associated with "Oh-bo-de-o-do" How undignified!
10. I love this song! And hey, it's my show! So, just for me, I play this song loaded with sage advice! It's an optional sing-along, but I bet you can't listen to it without singing! What are we advised to do when things go wrong?

Answer: Don't Worry, Be Happy

I've always thought "Don't Worry, Be Happy" should be a world anthem! While none of the others are songs, at least that I know of, "Sit Down And Count Your Fingers" is from a song by Janis Joplin, called "Little Girl Blue". And, if you're really in despair, this song just about covers it.
