The original version of "Such A Night" was recorded by The Drifters, featuring Clyde McPhatter in 1953. It peaked at number two on the US R&B chart in 1954. It was also released by The Four Lovers in 1956, they became slightly more successful as The 4 Seasons.

"Just One Look" was the second of seven consecutive UK Top 10 hits for The Hollies between 1963 and 1965. That run came to an end when they covered The Beatles' "If I Needed Someone", which peaked at number 20. Although they recovered to have five more Top 10 hits between 1966 and 1967, the recording of George Harrisons' song caused a rift between the two groups. George Harrison was reported as calling The Hollies version rubbish and John Lennon also criticized the version. Graham Nash of The Hollies responded that he was fed up with Lennon's continual insults about The Hollies sound.
