Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Larrikin Love's lead vocalist and lyricist?

Answer: Edward Larrikin

The unique Edward Larrikin has an amazing talent as a poet and lyricist, citing George Orwell and Oscar Wilde amongst his influences. Perhaps, viewed as pretentious claims by many, however, the enthralling flair of Larrikin Love's music makes it difficult to argue with his expertise.

The other band members are Micko Larkin lead guitarist, Alfie Ambrose bass and Coz Kerrigan drums. The other three choices were vocalists, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party, Orlando Weeks of the Maccabees and Nathan Willet of The Cold War Kids.
2. Violinist Rob Skipper, sometime collaborator with Larrikin Love, is part of the regular line-up in which band?

Answer: The Holloways

Violinist and guitarist Rob featured on Larrikin Love's single 'Edwould'. However, if you'd like to track him down for any reason, perhaps if he owes you some money, then your best bet would to be look for the Holloways. They are probably best known for their unbelievably catchy single, 'Generator.'
3. What is the name of the band's debut album?

Answer: The Freedom Spark

Released in September 2006 fusing elements of ska, punk and indie to produce something truly unique. Ed said - "The Freedom Spark is a record consisting of three parts entitled Hate, Fairytale and Freedom. It is an exploration of innocence, of childhood, of human nature, and, ultimately, the yearning to have a real sense of freedom. The album is the first instalment of an ongoing exploration. It reaches its own conclusion as a first segment, but in no way is it the finale."If this is the first instalment, the albums that follow will no doubt be spectacular.
4. Complete these lyrics to 'A Burning Coast', 'At a tin mine we do stand and here I realise that _ _ _ _ _'

Answer: It's all in my hands

This song demonstrates Larrikin's amazing skills as a songwriter coupled with the amazing musicianship of the band members. It has elements of folk, punk and above all it paints a picture with extraordinary clarity, of an individual quest for freedom.
5. In the 'Edwould' video, what kind of vehicle is the band travelling in?

Answer: A red vintage car

The band is having an enjoyable, seemingly innocent jaunt through the countryside. They stop in a pretty little forest and we discover that all along they've had poor Rob (the violinist) in the boot (trunk if you speak American.) The violent little swines!
6. From which song does the following line come? 'I hold a box and in it there's a new world, I hold a pearl forest and in it there's a long haired girl.'

Answer: Well, Love Does Furnish a Life

The story behind this song is rather interesting, apparently Edward and his girlfriend were on a train journey, they saw an albino girl crying on the shoulder of her male friend, who was reassuring her. They begin to wonder about the girl and the reason behind her tears. Edward imagines the girl's friend guiding her into a new world, a small example of how love of different kinds can provide so much in life. Another interesting fact regarding this song is that it features Jamie T on backing vocals.

"You open up your eyes and you're underneath a first class seat. Your yellow hair and purple eyes are bleeding defeat, your mother always told you that freedom was just a lie. So I'm here to show you what life can be like. I hold a box and in it there's a new world!"
7. Which Larrikin Love song speaks of disaffection with life in England?

Answer: Downing Street Kindling

'England has nothing more to offer me, everything that I adore came well before 1984.' Dissatisfaction with modern England is a reoccurring theme throughout the album; however, it is coupled with a romantic, nostalgic longing for the beauty which existed in the country's past.
8. What is the missing word in these 'Six Queens' lyrics? 'I'm the sixth queen, I'm the wrong queen, I've got ______ running through my bloodstream.'

Answer: Mascara

This song, the band's first single, has addictively catchy guitars fused with absorbing lyrics telling of how the quest for discovery can merge both joy and pain. 'There's a symphony in my heart, And I've lost all my morals.'
9. Complete these lyrics to 'Meet Me By The Getaway Car.' 'Oh, get a job, learn to dance, grow plants, _ _ _ _ _'

Answer: Hear Fascist remarks and chants

Another perfect example of Edward's poetic prowess, once again speaking of disaffection with the reality of the modern world, we find ourselves within and the hope for something more pure. 'So breathe some air, run away for a day, a lover not a tearaway. My friend, the city is close but clarity is far away.'
10. Which song does the following line come from? 'To a wind swept coast I will restart, I'll build a house, with a horse and cart, And while this world dissolves I will laugh!'

Answer: Forever Untitled

Once again, the music enchants and Larrikin paints pictures with his lyrics. You can almost smell the salty air, feel the wind in your hair and the responsibilities ebb away as the world dissolves. That is, until you have to go do some studying/work. Ah well it's nice to dream.

Larrikin Love are an amazing British band, whose music is unique, intriguing, captivating and genre transcending. The future looks bright for these guys! Their debut album, 'The Freedom Spark' is merely a taste of what's to come and we all know what sparks produce, bright and beautiful flames.
