Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A song by Eddie Cochran has just come on the car radio. I think I will go to the same place that he is singing about in the lyrics below. Where am I going? "I know just the very place to go I'll be over, pick you up at eight This will be our very first date"

Answer: Drive-In Show

"Drive-In Show" was written by Fred Dexter. It peaked at number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 for Eddie Cochran in 1957. It did not chart in the UK.

Eddie Cochran was born Ray Edward Cochran in Albert Lea, Minnesota, U. S. A., in 1938. In his short career he only had two Top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. They were "Sittin' In The Balcony" which peaked at number 18 in 1957 and "Summertime Blues" which peaked at number eight in 1958. In the UK before his death he had two Top 20 hits on the singles chart. They were "Summertime Blues" which peaked at number 18 in 1958 and "C'mon Everybody" which peaked at number six in 1959. In 1960 he had a posthumous number one hit for two weeks with "Three Steps To Heaven" and in 1961 "Weekend" peaked at number 15.

George Harrison among many other British musicians and singers of the time, was a big Eddie Cochran fan. In 1960 The Beatles were on a tour of Scotland as the backing group for British singer Johnny Gentle. Johnny had acquired Eddie Cochran's stage shirt after a stage performance the week before in the UK city of Bristol. On the Scottish tour George pestered Johnny so much about the shirt that he eventually gave it to him. I wonder what happened to it after that.

Lee Hazlewood went on to co-write and produce many hits for Duane Eddy such as "Rebel Rouser", "Forty Miles Of Bad Road", "Some Kind-A Earthquake", "Shazam" and "Kommotion". Lee Hazlewood also wrote and produced records for other people including the transatlantic number one hit for Nancy Sinatra, "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" in 1966.

The later song gave George Formby, one of the biggest UK stars of the '30s and '40s his only hit on the UK singles chart at number 40 in 1960, less than a year before his death of a heart attack.

He had a lot more success as co-writer of songs for other singers which included "When" The Kalin Twins (Evans/Reardon), "I Gotta Know" Elvis Presley (Evans/Williams), "Johnny Will" Pat Boone (Evans/Tobias), "Roses Are Red, My Love" Bobby Vinton (Evans/Byron) and "Let's Pretend" Lulu (Evans/Parnes).
