"She's Always a Woman" was a 1977 Billboard Hot 100 Number 17 hit for Billy Joel. John Lennon recorded "Woman" on his 1980 "Double Fantasy" album as a tribute to his wife, Yoko Ono. It was released as a single after his death.
Peter and Gordon had a British Invasion hit with "Woman". The song was one of several hits by the duo written by Paul McCartney under the name of Bernard Webb. McCartney also composed "A World Without Love" and "Nobody I Know" for Peter and Gordon under the same name. McCartney was dating Peter Asher's sister, Jane, at the time.

After forming the band in 1967 they signed to Columbia Records and Puckett's powerful tenor helped propel the band's first release, "Woman, Woman", to Number Four. Top Ten hits "Young Girl", "Over You" and "Lady Willpower" followed. "This Girl Is A Woman Now" reached Number Nine in 1969. "His Other Woman" was the B-side to the hit.

The Union Gap broke up in 1971 and Puckett continued to perform as a solo artist. Bobby Sherman had a 1969 Number Three hit with "Little Woman". Peter Cetera sang with Chicago and had a solo hit with "One Good Woman" in 1988.

In 1970 Brian Hyland had a Number Three hit with the Curtis Mayfield composition, "Gypsy Woman".

Ruby Johnson was a Stax recording artist who released songs such as "I'll Run Your Hurt Away" and "If I Ever Needed Love" in the sixties.
