Fred Parris of The Five Satins composed "In the Still of the Night". The Doo-Wop standard was originally recorded in the basement of a Catholic school in Connecticut as the "B" side to another song called "The Jones Girl". After being issued by a couple of local labels the tune reached Number 25 on the US Pop charts and was awarded a Gold Record.
After the song was released Parris was drafted and upon his return he reformed The Five Satins and continued to perform with various lineups into the new millennium.
"In the Still of the Night" has been included on the soundtrack of several movies including "Dirty Dancing" (1987).
The Turbans had a major Doo-Wop hit with "When You Dance". The Del-Vikings released "Whispering Bells" and The Platters were known for such hits as "Only You" and "Twilight Time".

Orleans was formed in Woodstock, New York. Their 1976 album, "Waking and Dreaming" contained "Still the One". The song was written by written by Johanna Hall and John Hall and reached Number Five on the US Pop charts. The band had realized success with "Still the One", "Dance With Me" and "Love Takes Time" when co-founder John Hall left for a solo career. The John Hall Band released two albums that did not garner chart success. Hall went on to a career in politics, becoming a United States Representative representing New York's 19th congressional district.
Hall was a Democrat and opposed the use of "Still the One" by the George W. Bush and John McCain campaigns.
Boston hit the scene in 1976 with their self titled debut album. Chicago has been recording since forming in 1967 and Alabama was founded in 1969.

"Sail On" and "Still" were from the 1979 Commodores album, "Midnight Magic". The Commodores did not release any hits the following year but after reforming they had a U.S. Number Four song with "Oh No" in 1981 and the Top Ten "Lady (You Bring Me Up)".
Lionel went into the studio in 1981 and released his self-titled solo album in 1982 on the Motown label. The album contained the single releases "Truly", "You Are" and "My Love".

Hank Williams' first successful Country release was "Move It On Over" in 1947. His first Number One U.S. Country hit was "Lovesick Blues" two years later. In 1952 "I Can't Help it (If I'm Still in Love with You)" was released at the "B" side to "Howlin' at the Moon" but it soon became the "A" side and reached Number Two.
Ironically the last single released by Williams before his death on New Years Day, 1953, was "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive".
