Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Starting off with album that gives this quiz its title, "Magic" was released in 2007. What is the title of the opening track on the album, which was released as a single?

Answer: Radio Nowhere

"Magic" was a number one album in both the USA and UK. "Radio Nowhere" includes the line "Is there anybody alive out there?", which Bruce frequently shouts out during his live shows.
2. "Nebraska", released in 1982, was Bruce's sixth studio album. Which city, which is actually nowhere near Nebraska, is the title of one of the tracks on this album?

Answer: Atlantic City

This song tells the story of a young couple from Philadelphia who "escape" to Atlantic City, but ends with the death of the young man after he becomes embroiled in organised crime. Much of the "Nebraska" album has a crime-related theme.
3. "The Ghost of Tom Joad", released in 1995, takes its name from the main protagonist of which classic novel?

Answer: The Grapes of Wrath

Tom Joad was a character from John Steinbeck's 1939 novel "The Grapes of Wrath", which followed the fortunes of a family from the dust bowl of Oklahoma travelling to California to search for a better life. Many of the songs on the album have an updated take on this theme, mainly featuring Mexican immigrants.
4. Which member of the E Street Band appears alongside Bruce on the sleeve of the 1975 album "Born to Run"?

Answer: Clarence Clemons

"Born to Run" was Bruce's commercial breakthrough album and contains a number of tracks which became live favourites throughout the decades, such as "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out", "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland".
Clarence Clemons was the long-time saxophone player with the E Street Band.
5. Which 2002 album was Bruce's reaction to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the USA?

Answer: The Rising

"The Rising" was Bruce's 12th studio album, and the first to feature the E Street Band since the 1984 release "Born in the USA". A number of the songs on the album are inspired by the events of 9/11, such as "Lonesome Day", "You're Missing" and "My City of Ruins".
6. In 1973, Bruce released his first album, in the title of which he sent greetings from Asbury Park, a seaside resort in which state of the USA?

Answer: New Jersey

The full title of the album is "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.". The sleeve features a picture postcard, and is one of the few Springsteen album covers not to feature a picture of the man himself.
Asbury Park is a resort located not far from Bruce's hometown of Freehold.
7. "Born in the USA" was Bruce's biggest selling album of the 20th century. The album spawned no fewer than seven singles - which of these tracks on the album was never released as a single?

Answer: Darlington County

"Born in the USA" was released in 1984, and, despite being hijacked by politicians at the time, was not a jingoistic album, but a comment on pessimism in the USA in the years following the Vietnam War.
"Dancing in the Dark", "Cover Me", "Born in the USA", "I'm on Fire", "Glory Days", "I'm Goin' Down" and "My Hometown" all made the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
8. Bruce's 17th studio album, released in 2012, was entitled "Wrecking Ball". The title track alludes to the demolition of which sports stadium?

Answer: Giants Stadium

Giants Stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was home to the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL, prior to its demolition in 2010.
Three singles were released off the album - "We Take Care of Our Own", "Rocky Ground" and "Death to my Hometown".
9. Which two Bruce Springsteen albums were released on the same day?

Answer: "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town"

"Human Touch" and "Lucky Town" were both released on March 31st, 1992. Human Touch" sold slightly better than "Lucky Town" and spawned a top 20 US single in "Human Touch".
10. Which track off the 1980 album "The River" provided Bruce with his first US top ten single?

Answer: Hungry Heart

Ironically, Bruce had originally written "Hungry Heart" for The Ramones, but was persuaded to keep it for himself. It reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and became a perennial live favourite.
