Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Your first stop is a grubby club called the Indra Club. The Beatles play onstage for nearly seven hours and they look grubby and unwashed. Unusually, they drink, eat and smoke onstage. Once, John leaves in the middle of a song to go to the bathroom. What city are you in?

Answer: Hamburg

The Beatles got started in Hamburg, Germany, sleeping in the back of a club called the Indra Club. It was here that they refined their musical skill and created a stage presence.
2. You get back in the time machine and fly forward in time. You are on a street in London, looking up. You can hear strains of "Get Back" and crowds of people are gathering. It is a cold January day and you can just make out the bodies of the Beatles up on a roof. What year is it and where are you?

Answer: 1969, Apple Studios

The original idea of the "Let It Be" album was to practice a bunch of new songs and perform them live. However, instead of doing the show in some exotic location the stressed out Beatles performed a few songs on the roof of Apple Studios.
3. You hop back in the Time Machine and go back in time again. You step out into a television studio. The room is colorful and filled with flowers and people. Among the people sitting on the floor you spot Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful. The Beatles are sitting on stools playing a song on the first ever worldwide satellite hookup. What song are they playing?

Answer: All You Need is Love

There is much speculation about whether or not John Lennon wrote "All You Need is Love" for this program. The song became the anthem of the summer of 1967 (The Summer of Love). It is featured in the "Yellow Submarine" movie with some verses omitted.
4. You get back in the time machine and head to another television studio. Only this time the Beatles stand on a stage alone and they wear suits. Hundreds of girls scream and cry for them and you can barely hear the music. This is the 1964 broadcast of "The Ed Sullivan Show". What are two songs featured in the set list?

Answer: "I Saw Her Standing There" and "All My Loving"

This broadcast was seen by over 70 million people (a record that has since been broken). The set list included five songs: "All My Loving", "Till There Was You", "She Loves You", "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
5. You continue on to the set of the Beatles first movie, "A Hard Day's Night". You get to see the Beatles act and laugh at their own mistakes. You witness the filming of the first scene of the film in the train. What is the first line of the movie?

Answer: "Hey... pardon me for asking but who's that little old man?"

John spoke these words to Paul. This is an excellent film that should be seen by everyone - not just Beatles fans. It is very funny. All of the lines mentioned as choices are spoken in the first scene on the train.
6. You hop back in the time machine. This time you fly far into the future. The Beatles are outside Abbey Road Studios, in the process of taking a photograph for their new album. They walk across a crosswalk many times, trying to get the perfect shot. Later, the clothes the men wear are meant to represent the members of a funeral procession. Name the Beatle whose work clothes are supposed to represent the gravedigger?

Answer: George

This theory supports the "Paul is Dead" hoax. Because of his jeans and jean jacket, George is the gravedigger. Paul is the corpse, Ringo is the undertaker, and John is the priest.
7. You hop back in the machine and travel back only a little bit in time. The Beatles are still at Abbey Road Studios, but this time inside. They are recording "The White Album". For the first time in their long career Ringo is singing two songs for the album instead of one. What are these two songs?

Answer: "Don't Pass Me By" and "Goodnight"

Ringo wrote "Don't Pass Me By" (it was the first song he ever wrote) and it was featured near the end of the first of the two albums in the double set. "Goodnight" was written by John for his son. It closes the last side of the second album.
8. The next trip sends you whirling into an executive meeting where men are deciding to release "We Can Work It Out" and one other song as a Double A-Side single. What is the other song?

Answer: Day Tripper

Several times throughout the Beatles' career they released singles with both sides on an equal level. Other examples of double A-sides include "Eleanor Rigby"/"Yellow Submarine" and "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever".
9. You get back in the time machine and travel forward in time to the creation of the album "Rubber Soul". The Beatles work hard to create the perfect songs for the folksy album. One song called "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" is in the making. George Harrison has added the Indian sitar as an after thought to the album. He will continue with the instrument and take lessons. What is the first song that George will write specifically for the instrument?

Answer: Love You To

"Love Me To" was originally entitled "Granny Smith", after the kind of apple. The eventual title is quite confusing. On some American albums it was printed as "Love You Too". (The hint refers to the album this song is featured on.)
10. Your final stop in the time machine is the release party for "Sgt. Pepper". Everyone is laughing, drinking and having a good time. You stop and pick up a copy of the album, studying the cover. You look at all of the famous cutouts behind the Beatles and the wild and vibrant colors of the bands' uniforms. But the thing that really catches your eye is the doll on the right side of the cover. The words written on its shirt are interesting. What does it say?

Answer: Welcome the Rolling Stones

The cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is certainly one of the best ever made. There are many famous people on the cover including Marilyn Monroe, Winston Churchill, and the Beatles themselves. Two people that were to originally appear but were removed are Gandhi and Hitler.
