Fred West was born in Much Marcle, Herefordshire. His house at 25 Cromwell Street hid the bodies of many of his victims. He hanged himself in prison in 1995 and his wife, Rose, was sentenced to life imprisonment for her part in the murders. Ian Brady's crimes were committed in Lancashire, Harold Shipman's in Hyde (Manchester) and Peter Sutcliffe was the 'Yorkshire Ripper'.

Fox was also associated with bridge building and his firm was responsible for building the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition in 1851.
