By the way, it is the name of a girl and not a place of religious worship." Where does she come from? Hint

Question 3 of 10

"Well, if you are a fan of the American reality TV series 'Jersey Shore', you will have heard of this one", says Brian one Friday night as he presents this drink to the Prof. Created by one of the 'Jersey Shore' actors (Ronnie Ortiz-Magro), it reminds Brian more of one of the characters from the 'Harry Potter' series. "So Prof, what is the name of the cocktail?" Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. "Here's another one for you to work out, Prof", says Brian one Saturday evening as he places a drink in front of the Prof. "Here's a clue: the 17th Century outlaw folk hero who lends his name to this one, drank his whisky without an 'e' ... so who was 'e?", asked Brian. Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. "I got this recipe from the source: El Floridita, the fish restaurant and cocktail bar", Brian rambled whilst mixing up the cocktail. "Here, Prof, this might help you get over your writer's block. There is no sugar added - just as the man preferred it. The drink is called a Hemingway Daiquiri but tell me where you would find El Floridita?" Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. "More history for you, Prof. This guy got assassinated but probably not because of this drink. This cocktail is of course a Brandy Alexander", Brian says as he sets the glass down one Friday evening. "Believed to have been named after Alexander II, which country is he linked to?", Brian says as he sets the glass down one Friday evening. Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. "Here is a different one, Prof. It is a mocktail and not a cocktail", says Brian. "See if you can work out who has lent his name to this one. This drink is named after a clean-cut American singing actor with over 100 films to his name. Who was this actor?" Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. "This Mexican cocktail has some history, Prof, and a number of possible sources for its name", Brian volunteers as he blends the drink. "It might be named after the singer Peggy Lee, or possibly after a dancer called Marjorie King or may be just the Spanish name for Daisy. What is the name of this drink?" Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mixing up a Bloody Mary, Brian places the drink in front of the Prof and asks: "The red colour of the drink no doubt explains the 'bloody' part of the name but which Mary lent her name to the drink?"

Answer: Mary I, religious persecutor

'Bloody Mary' was the nickname of the Tudor queen, Mary I of England, and is believed to be the source of the cocktail's name. She earned the nickname through her persecution of Protestants following her re-establishment of Roman Catholicism. Between 300 and 350 people were burnt at the stake for their Protestant beliefs in her five-year reign. Who came up with the recipe is not so clear.
2. Having prepared a non-alcoholic Shirley Temple drink for the young girl with her family at Table 5, Brian ponders out aloud: "I wonder where this cocktail comes from?" The Prof, sitting on a bar stool opposite him, looks up in surprise: "Haven't you heard the name before? Maybe you are too young to know. By the way, it is the name of a girl and not a place of religious worship." Where does she come from?

Answer: USA

Shirley Temple was an American child film star and singer from the 1930s with her main acting career occurring between the ages of three and twelve. She tried politics and was unsuccessfully in her attempt for Congress. She was however appointed ambassador to Ghana and then Czechoslovakia.

The drink called the 'Shirley Temple' is said to have been created for her by a bartender at a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California, but there are other claims regarding where the drink was first created.
3. Brian had just finished preparing a drink. He spoke to the Prof: "So that's an Arnold Palmer. I've heard of the guy's name but I've forgotten what he does. Please remind me, Prof. What sport is he well-known for?"

Answer: Golf

This non-alcoholic drink is one that Arnold Palmer used to have at home. He was overheard ordering it from a bar one day and so the 'Arnold Palmer' was born. It is also known as 'Half and Half'. The 'John Daly' is an alcoholic version. Having had his name appropriated for this drink, John Daly now markets his own versions of the cocktail.
4. Brian did some research and found out that the cocktail 'Bellini' is named after the 15th century artist Giovanni Bellini. What was that artist's nationality?

Answer: Italian

Reflecting the colour of the drink, the cocktail is said to have been named after the pinkish colour of a robe in one of Bellini's paintings. 'Bellini' translates from Italian into English as 'nice' or 'pretty'.
5. "So Prof, what is the name of the cocktail?"

Answer: Ron Ron Juice

Ronnie Magro has talked of launching his own series of drinks based on the recipe. And the Harry Potter link? In the sixth book and film, Lavender Brown developed a crush on Ron Weasley, one of Harry's friends, and at times would call him 'Ron Ron'. It seems Brian must have watched the film recently.

Answer: Rob Roy MacGregor

Rob Roy was a Scottish cattle man who lived at the end of the 17th and early 18th centuries. Books, including "Rob Roy" by Sir Walter Scott (published in 1817) gave him fame. The cocktail itself is called a 'Rob Roy' and was created in 1894 in honour of the premiere of an operetta of the same name.

As for the whisky clue, in Scotland (unlike Ireland and US) the drink is spelt without an 'e'.
7. "I got this recipe from the source: El Floridita, the fish restaurant and cocktail bar", Brian rambled whilst mixing up the cocktail. "Here, Prof, this might help you get over your writer's block. There is no sugar added - just as the man preferred it. The drink is called a Hemingway Daiquiri but tell me where you would find El Floridita?"

Answer: Havana, Cuba

At various stages in his life, Ernest Hemingway lived in all of these places. Originally the cocktail was known as the Papa Doble but unlike most Daiquiri cocktails, the Hemingway Daiquiri has no sugar added. The 'Papa Doble' name was changed to the 'Hemingway Daiquiri' and the El Floridita has profited handsomely from the tourist trade ever since.

Answer: Russia

The cocktail is a derivative of another called an 'Alexander'. It is said to be named after the Russian Emperor Alexander II but some tie it to Alexander the Great of ancient Greece (or Alexander III of Macedon). The Italian Alexander II was Pope for three years from 1058 and the Scottish one was King from 1198 to 1249. Alexander Woollcott, an early 20th century American drama critic, has also claimed that it is named after him.
9. "Here is a different one, Prof. It is a mocktail and not a cocktail", says Brian. "See if you can work out who has lent his name to this one. This drink is named after a clean-cut American singing actor with over 100 films to his name. Who was this actor?"

Answer: Roy Rogers

The 'Roy Rogers' is a boys' equivalent of a 'Shirley Temple' and a mocktail is a cocktail without alcohol. Roy Rogers was an American singer and actor, playing mostly cowboy roles. Most of his films were made in the 25 years from 1935 and frequently featured his wife Dale Evans, his horse Trigger and dog Bullet. Elvis managed just over 30 films, Frank has over 60 to his name and Jamie has appeared in over 30 films.
10. "This Mexican cocktail has some history, Prof, and a number of possible sources for its name", Brian volunteers as he blends the drink. "It might be named after the singer Peggy Lee, or possibly after a dancer called Marjorie King or may be just the Spanish name for Daisy. What is the name of this drink?"

Answer: Margarita

Peggy is a variant of the name of Margaret. The 'Daisy' is a brandy-based cocktail and it has been argued that the 'Margarita' is a tequila-based version of this. Tequila comes mostly from Tequila in Mexico where Spanish is spoken and 'Margarita' is Spanish for 'Daisy'. It is claimed to have been named after a number of other people however the Spanish Daisy explanation appears to be the earliest dating from 1936 and the Prohibition years.
