Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. God Says Eat Every Moving Thing

Answer: Genesis

Genesis 9:3 "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things." It might be that this verse has never been quoted by any preacher. God said this to Noah after the people were finally allowed to leave the ark after the flood waters went down.

Other books of the Bible have sometimes complicated rules about what should or should not be eaten. However, if you ignore all that and only read this one verse, it sounds like you can eat everything that moves, and it mentions a green herb. Don't worry. I also talk about the kosher laws in Leviticus.
2. Plague of Darkness Hits Egypt

Answer: Exodus

Exodus 10:21 "And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt." Exodus 10:22 "And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days." This was one of the ten plagues which hit Egypt after Moses returned and tried to persuade Pharaoh to let God's people go. I was going to use the headline "Plagues Hit Egypt", but how long would that paragraph be to describe all of the plagues? (If you want to see a nonreligious movie which describes the plagues, and even shows some of them, I recommend "The Abominable Dr. Phibes".)
3. God Says Most Sea Food Is Abomination

Answer: Leviticus

Leviticus 11:9 "These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat." Leviticus 11:12 "Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you." Chapter 11 of Leviticus has the rules about what people should eat and should not eat. Preachers are always bringing up pork, the most popular food Leviticus said you should not eat. What about sea food? This would put Red Lobster out of business, because this says anything without scales or fins is an "abomination".

There's also a complicated list of what birds you should or should not eat.
4. Talking Ass Warns Balaam

Answer: Numbers

Numbers 22:32 "And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? Behold I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me." Numbers 22:33 "And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times; unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee and saved her alive." Okay, children of all ages can have some fun quoting this passage.

However, seriously, someone had hired Balaam, a respected "holy" man, to curse God's people.

The angel of the Lord wouldn't stand for that, and would have killed Balaam if not for his donkey.
5. Herod Interviews Jesus

Answer: Luke

The religious leaders wanted something done about Jesus. They didn't like what Jesus said about them. Pilate said he couldn't find anything illegal about what Jesus said. Luke 23:6 "When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean." Luke 23:7 "And as soon as he knew that He belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time." Herod hoped that Jesus would perform a miracle in front of Herod.

Herod has heard that Jesus was a holy man. Perhaps Herod thought Jesus would perform tricks, like a magician. Luke 23:9 "Then he questioned with Him in many words, but He answered him nothing." Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate.
6. Solomon Threatens To Cut Baby In Half

Answer: I Kings

I Kings 3:25 "And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other." This would be one of the more shocking headlines. King threatens to cut baby in half. Imagine what would happen if a contemporary leader were to say that. Of course, this is the story about King Solomon, who was famously wise, because two women claimed to have the same baby. Solomon threatened to cut it in half and give half to each woman. One woman said okay.

The other one said she would rather see her baby live with another woman than watch it die. Solomon gave the baby to the second woman, its real mother.
7. Bears Attack Children

Answer: II Kings

II Kings 3:23 "And he went up from thence into Bethel and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said, Go up, thou bald head. Go up, thou bald head." This was talking about the prophet Elisha. II Kings 3:24 "And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord, and there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them." This was quoted in the science fiction book "Stranger in a Strange Land".

The character said he wouldn't believe in a God who murdered children. I looked up the quote in the bible, and it was there. 42 children were attacked by female animals.
8. Jesus Wept

Answer: John

John 11:33 "Jesus wept." John 11:43 "And when He thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth." People have heard this is the shortest verse in the King James bible. This is also the story about the resurrection of Lazarus. People told Jesus that if he had gotten there sooner, Lazarus would not have died. Jesus wept, and told them it wasn't too late.

The name Lazarus was used for at least one TV show ("The Lazarus Syndrome" which quickly "died", never to return.) and was mentioned in "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan" (after becoming resurrected, Jason killed people on a ship called the Lazarus).
9. Peter Resurrects Tabitha

Answer: Acts

Acts 9:40 "But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body, said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up." Here is one of the times when someone who was not Jesus resurrected someone. Tabitha was said to be of "good works" in an earlier verse, so God's will was carried out when she was resurrected.

Many people became Christians after hearing about this event.
10. The Moon Became As Blood

Answer: Revelation

Revelation 6:12 "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood:" Revelation 6:13 "And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind." Revelation 6:14 "And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places." In the last of those "Chronicles of Narnia" books, the place is destroyed after the stars fall out of heaven onto the ground and become past saints.

This was another descriptive bible verse from St. John.
