Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Noah loved the Lord and did the best he could to love and obey the Lord. The Lord came to him and said, "Make yourself an ark...". Noah built the ark and placed his family and many animals on the ark. I seem to forget how many days it rained for. Can you help me finish my story?

Answer: 40 days and 40 nights

According to Genesis 7, the Lord kept Noah and has family safe as the rain covered the earth for 40 days and nights. When the flood waters cleared, the Lord set a rainbow in the sky as a remembrance that the world will never be destroyed by a flood again.

We have many floods over the world, and floods have destroyed many places and people, but never the entire world.
2. First Jonah was told to go to Nineveh to help clean up the city, but Jonah didn't listen to the Lord and "fled to Tarshish". As Jonah was on a ship going a different direction, a 'great wind' came. The crew cast Jonah into the sea. What happened next to Jonah?

Answer: He was swallowed by a great fish.

In the book of Jonah, chapter one of the King James Version, Jonah didn't want to go, but knew that he was the reason for the great storm on the boat. He asked the men to throw him to the seas. The men were actually very nervous about doing so, but they did toss him overboard and immediately the seas were calmed.

Jonah was actually in the great fish for three days. I don't know about you, but I can't even imagine this. Pinocchio was a Disney character who also was in a large fish. In the cartoon he lit a fire to escape.
3. First God told Adam and Eve that they could eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden, except one. I can't remember which tree it was, can you help me finish this story?

Answer: You cannot eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

The reason they couldn't eat from this tree is that they would die, according to Genesis 2. The tree would give you knowledge, the knowledge to tell the difference between right and wrong. The serpent, who was in the tree, told Eve that she should eat the fruit and be more knowledgeable. She did and talked Adam into it as well, and you know the rest. They did die eventually too.

It's funny because no apple is never mentioned, yet we all say the "apple" was the fruit, although it is not mentioned (in the King James Version, anyhow).
4. In the King James Version of the Bible, Luke 22, Jesus was talking to a group of people. Judas came up to Jesus and... I can't seem to remember what Judas did. Can you remember what happens next?

Answer: He kissed Jesus.

Jesus knew exactly why Judas gave him a kiss. It was a sign to show the priests and elders who the Son of Man was. It was Judas' way to betray Jesus. According to Matthew 27, he received 30 pieces of silver for the betrayal. Afterwards he tried to return the silver.
5. Joseph was the favorite son of his father. His father wanted to do something special for his favorite son. What did he make him, according to Genesis 37?

Answer: Coat of many colors

It's sad when a parent picks a child as "their favorite", but that's exactly what Israel did to his son. As you can imagine, his brothers were not happy and hated Joseph because of this. I could go further, but grab a Bible and read more about what happens to Joseph in the book of Genesis. I will say that the end of the story is good.
6. Many years ago there were kingdoms, described in the Bible, with kings who would make decrees and laws. One of the laws in the book of Daniel was to NOT pray to a God. Daniel was a God loving man and prayed three times a day. The law didn't stop him. He again prayed and in front of everyone. What did they do to Daniel after he prayed?

Answer: Tossed him in a lion's den

The tattletales of the town told the King and he had Daniel tossed in the den with lions. It sort of backfired on the town tattletales, though. When the King went to the den in the morning, Daniel said that his God protected him from the lions. The King ordered the tattletales and their families to be tossed into the den next.
7. Mary was quite pregnant and was traveling with her husband, Joseph. Joseph and Mary tried to get a room at the Inn, but there wasn't any more room. I forget what happened at this point of the story. Can you help me finish the story?

Answer: Mary had a child and wrapped the child in clothing and laid him in a manger.

Two different books of the Bible offer storylines about Jesus being born. Luke and Matthew each offer their own version of Jesus and his visitors, including three wise men. Even an angel appeared to the shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus. The shepherds headed to Bethlehem to pay their respects to the new baby.
8. Samson was so strong. His power was unbelievable and many people wished for the same strength, yet one woman wanted to know his secret to such strength, a beautiful woman named Delilah. She asked him over and over how he had such great strength. He finally confided and told her the truth, according to Judges 16. What was the reason again?

Answer: By never cutting his hair

Not only did he finally tell Delilah but she called in the Philistines and they shaved his head and burnt out his eyes. Little did they realize that as his hair would grow back, so would his strength.

The philistines put Samson in an arena filled with lots of people. Samson placed his hands on two pillars and pushed with all of his strength and died as the house collapsed on him and all the people.
9. David was just a young boy and, like many boys, was small and lanky. David was a shepherd and would watch the sheep. One day he was summoned by his father to deliver some food to his brothers who were fighting in the army. David took with him some smooth stones from the brook. I can't recall how many stones he picked up, according to 1 Samuel 17:40. Can you remember?

Answer: 5

David took one of stones out of his bag and placed it in his sling and it went flying and hit Goliath smack dab in the head. Goliath went down with a thud and David cut off his head, and was proud of his accomplishment of killing the enemy.
10. Many cities in the Bible days were evil and needed to be destroyed. God told Lot to leave the city with his wife and not look back, but she did look back. What happened to her, according to Genesis 19?

Answer: She turned to a pillar of salt

God did send fires to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and killed everything in the city. All he asked was for Lot and his wife not to look back. Lot's wife did and turned into a pillar of salt. There is no mention of her first name, only wife of Lot.
