Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the slippery animal found near a garden tree?

Answer: Serpent

Appearing in Genesis 3, the serpent tempted Eve to eat forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, leading to Adam and Eve being cast out of the Garden of Eden. In short, it can be said to be a story about temptation, disobedience and the consequences of sin.
2. Which bird with a homing instinct returned once with an olive leaf?

Answer: Dove

From Genesis 8:6-12, in the story of Noah's ark and the cleansing flood, Noah sent out a dove to find dry land. On its second attempt, the dove brought back an olive leaf as evidence of dry land. It did not return after being sent out a third time, implying that it had found dry land to rest on. Noah also sent out a raven at one point but the bird brought nothing back.
3. Which picky animal preferred not to eat this Daniel offering?

Answer: Lion

From Daniel 6: falling foul of a decree promoted by his enemies, the faithful Daniel was thrown into a den of lions. His faith saw him spared by an angel.
However, his accusers and their families did not fare so well when King Darius threw them in afterwards.
4. Which animal proved accommodating to this prophet for a few days?

Answer: Whale

In a story about repentance, Jonah refused to go to Nineveh as commanded by God. He ended up in the belly of a big fish (Jonah 1:17) where he spent three days and nights before repenting. He was cast out to continue his mission. The Book of Jonah does not say what kind of fish is involved, however, a whale is named in Matthew 12:40.
5. What type of bird kept Elijah from hunger when he was hiding in the wilderness?

Answer: Raven

In 1 Kings 17, the prophet Elijah was directed to go into hiding by a brook near the Jordan River during a time of drought and famine. He was kept fed by ravens bringing bread and meat until the water ran dry. He was then directed to go to Zarephath where a widow supplied him with food.
6. After their exodus from Egypt, what bird was eaten by the Israelites wandering in the wilderness?

Answer: Quail

The Book of Exodus is primarily about redemption and deliverance. Led by Moses, the former slaves fled from Egypt, crossing the Red Sea and heading for the Promised Land. Water and food were initially a problem. In response to complaints, they were supplied with manna and quail (Exodus 16:13).
7. Young children are roughed up after mocking the prophet Elisha. By what type of animal?

Answer: Bear

After being mocked, Elisha called down a curse on the children. Two female bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the children. In a time of competing faiths, the story warns against disrespecting a prophet of God and the potentially severe consequences (2 Kings 2:23-25).
8. Which type of animal is identified as responsible for disposing of Jezebel's body?

Answer: Dog

Jezebel, known for her wickedness and opposition to God's prophets, met a gruesome end. This was prophesied in 2 Kings 9:10 and deemed fulfilled in 2 Kings 9:30-37. Dogs were mostly considered unclean animals and it is likely that their involvement reinforced the message of humiliation and disgrace of a powerful figure.
9. Best not to throw pearls before such animals as they'll not appreciate it. Which animal won't?

Answer: Pig

In a metaphorical lesson given in Matthew 7:6, Jesus taught his disciples to be discerning about who to share wisdom with. In essence, those being taught need to be open to receiving important teachings. Both pigs and dogs get a mention, with dogs not to be given sacred things.
10. Kindness to which sort of animal led Rebekah to marriage vows?

Answer: Camel

As described in Genesis 24, Abraham tasked a senior servant to find a suitable wife for his son Isaac from kindred family in his homeland. After praying for guidance, the servant became convinced that Rebekah was the chosen one after she gave water to him and then went on to water his camels. He then obtained permission from her family for her to marry Isaac.
