Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. With sin unleashed in earth, we stumble across the first murder in the Bible. A man has been killed because he made a sacrifice to God. Which of these jealous characters is the culprit in the case of "Who Killed Abel"?

Answer: Cain

Cain killed his brother because God chose Abel's sacrifice instead of his, when the two brothers brought their offerings before God. Cain was warned by God but didn't listen. He let his emotions get the best of him and lured Abel out to a place where he murdered him.

He was not expecting his eyewitness to the crime to be Abel's blood. When Cain murdered Abel out of jealousy, Abel's blood cried from the ground, letting God know what had happened. When Cain's sentence was passed down by God, Cain wept, "This is more than I can bear!" Our merciful judge, God, put a mark on him so no one would kill him. Our first criminal is an example of what sin does to lives.

His parents Adam and Eve wept bitterly. (Case File, Genesis 4)
2. Deception at its finest. A man steals a birthright and blessing from his brother by posing in goat's skin before his father. Who is the culprit in the case of "The Wrong Blessing"?

Answer: Jacob

A mother, and her son, gang up against his twin brother! When Isaac sent Esau out to the woods, Jacob's mother dressed him in goat skin and told him to bring a meal before his father. The old man could not see very well and was about to die. He was expecting Esau to bring him the meal so he could bless him.

He should have trusted his inner instinct that something was wrong, but he felt Jacob's (pardon me...the goat's skin) hair and believed he had the right son. When Esau came in, he wept and cried when he found out Jacob had stolen his blessing and birthright.

He vowed to kill his brother if he ever got the chance! Bible thieves and cheaters, beware! (Case File, Genesis 27)
3. We are on mob duty! Ten angry brothers plotted to kill their brother for having dreams and a coat of many colors. It's a bad case of their father playing favorites. However one brother decided to throw Joseph in a well and save him later. Which brother came up with the secret rescue plan in the case of "The Well Down Under"?

Answer: Reuben

Joseph's brothers plotted to kill him when he came checking on their work habits in the field. Reuben didn't like Joseph any more than his brothers, but did not want to be involved in a homicide. So he convinced his brothers to throw Joseph in a well and planned to rescue him later.

The plan almost worked...but his brothers decided to sell Joseph into slavery before he returned. Oops. Reuben had to go along with his brothers when they lied to their father about Joseph being killed by a wild animal.

They showed the ripped coat of many colors, and their father went hysterical. (Case File, Genesis 37)
4. You can forget those wanted posters, this woman was wearing a disguise when she did her deed. In the case of "Is She Really that Woman?", which of these ladies dressed up to trick her father-in-law after God slew her two husbands?

Answer: Tamar

Tamar's two previous husbands were sons of Judah. They did evil in the sight of God and God slew them. It was an Israelite tradition that when one husband died, if his family had any remaining single men, they would marry his widow. Judah, still grieving over his sons, looked at his third son and said "No way, baby!" So Tamar dressed up as a prostitute and one day when she saw her father-in-law, tricked him into paying her to be his harlot.

When she became pregnant the town wanted to stone her and Judah said go ahead. That was until Tamar showed him his red chord and the things he gave her.

She was spared and had twins. One of them became the ancestor of Jesus. (Case File, Genesis 38)
5. You might need your fingerprint kit on this one! A soldier has been killed, while one man tried to save a Hebrew slave from a beating. The suspect is running for his life. Be on the look out for a male, whom most people knew as a prince in Egypt. Who is the culprit in the homicidal case of "The Hardworking Egyptian"?

Answer: Moses

Hebrew witnesses said that Moses was trying to defend a Hebrew slave from an Egyptian. Egyptians were known to beat and overwork the Hebrews for no reason at all. Moses stepped in and tried to stop the man, but something went wrong. Moses killed the man, then ran for his life.

It was an accident, but Egyptians did not feel that way. Moses left his princely palace and became a shepherd in the desert. One day God found him and told him there was a better way to free the Hebrews than to kill people. Moses was sent back to Egypt to tell Pharaoh, "Let My People Go!". God did the rest of the work. (Case File, Exodus 2)
6. God is cursing his people because someone has some sticky fingers! God is on the lookout for someone with stolen property from the loot of Jericho. This man may have hidden the items in his tent. Who is the culprit in the case of "It Was Only A Little Bit"?

Answer: Achan

When God gave the Israelites the city of Jericho, He asked for his payment. He wanted all the things in Jericho to be left for Him. However Achan didn't think it was stealing from God to take a few things for himself and hide them in his tent. He took some gold, silver, and a nice garment. "It's only a little bit, and I deserve it! It's a shame for it to go to waste", Achan thought.

However God stopped giving Israel the victory over their enemies. Their leader Joshua prayed, and God agreed to point out the guilty person.

When Achan was found, he and his entire family were stoned and burned with fire. Ouch. They were pretty serious about the death penalty for stealing in those days. (Case File, Joshua 7)
7. So far in this line of detective work, sometimes those women on the street can't be trusted. A man has been taken to the Philistine jail after a woman discovered his secrets and turned him in to the Philistine army. He is being tortured for his treatment of God's enemies, by burning fields, destroying public property, and killing hundreds in self defense with a jawbone of a donkey. Which woman framed Samson, in the case of "Strong, But Stupid."?

Answer: Delilah

Samson was doing some hardcore damage to the Philistines, but wasn't serving God as he was supposed to. God had told his parents to never cut his hair or let him drink strong drink. The Philistines paid Delilah to find out the secret of his strength. She tied him up with ropes, vines, and even wove his hair into a loom because Samson told her he would lose his strength if she did so. Each time the Philistines came to take Samson, and Samson beat them up good! However Delilah was super angry and convinced Samson to tell her the truth. (He should have had a clue she was not trustworthy when she betrayed him several times before).

She cut his hair and Samson was helpless when the Philistines came. They made him blind and forced him to work in their dungeon until a party came.

When they displayed Samson for all to see, Samson brought down the house...literally. He pushed the pillars with his hands, killing him and a host of Philistines with him. (Case File, Judges 16)
8. It's not Las Vegas baby, but someone got in trouble in Jerusalem! A soldier was put on the front of the battle lines, while someone in a high leadership position stole his wife. What seemed like an accident of battle, was actually a scheming plot to cover up sin. Who is the culprit in the homicidal case of "A Soldier, King, and Rubber Ducky Mishap"?

Answer: King David

King David was supposed to be fighting with his men in a war, but was home when he oversaw the wife of one of his soldiers taking a bath. Struck by lust, David did not contain himself. He thought his kingly position would let him get away with anything he wanted.

He slept with Bathsheba and had his general put her husband on the front lines of battle where he was killed. He thought it was well played. However God knew. God knew before and after the wedding bells were over. He caused Bathsheba's baby to die. David cried and cried, but nothing saved the child. David repented when he realized letting his sin go out of control made him a murderer, an adulterer, and a liar. God forgave him though. (Case File, 2 Samuel 11)
9. Time for a coffee break and some paperwork. Looking over past case files, we don't have DNA to prove this one. Two ladies were fighting over a misplaced child. How did Solomon judge the case of "Two Ladies and a Baby"?

Answer: He asked for a sword to divide the child in two.

King Solomon was the wisest king in the world. When these two ladies came to him with a child, he had to decide who the real mother was. They had both had babies around the same time, and during the night one baby was crushed when its mother rolled over.

They were fighting over the child that was still alive. Solomon heard both sides of the tale, then asked for a sword to divide the child in two. The real mother offered to give her baby up to save its life. Solomon handed the child to her over the protests of the other woman.

He told the court that a real mother would do anything to save her child, even if it meant losing it. (Case File, 1 Kings 3)
10. People murder for the silliest of reasons. King Ahab has just been confronted by the prophet, for a stolen vineyard and a murdered owner. Ahab's disappointed plans to start a vegetable garden have been put on hold while the crime scene is investigated. Which of these was the evil queen who hatched this plot, by twisting her country's justice system in the case of "Vineyards and Vegetables, God Knows the Truth"?

Answer: Queen Jezebel

Ahab came home crying like a baby when Naboth would not sell his vineyard because it was his family's inheritance from the Lord. Ahab really wanted a vegetable garden that was close to his palace. Queen Jezebel, disgusted by her husband's behavior, hatched a homicidal plot to get the vineyard for her husband.

She had some false witnesses accuse Naboth of breaking the law and lie in court. They took Naboth out and killed him. Ahab was so excited when his wife told him the vineyard was his. That was...until the prophet showed up and cursed Ahab and his wife. Elijah told Jezebel one day the dogs would devour her and she would not have the chance to be buried with dignity, like the rest of Israel's queens.

It happened. God never breaks His word and His justice system always works. (Case File, 1 Kings 21)
