Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one was where Jacob saw angels of God ascending and descending a ladder to heaven?

Answer: Bethel

Jacob was at Bethel when he had a dream regarding angels of God ascending and descending a ladder from heaven, as per Genesis 28:10-22. When Jacob arose in the morning, he said: "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!" As a result, he named the location Bethel. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state Bethel means 'House of God'.
2. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one was the birthplace of Jesus?

Answer: Bethlehem

Bethlehem is the correct answer, of course. Details of Jesus being born in Bethlehem can be found in Matthew 2:1-12 and Luke 2:1-7. Christians view Jesus' birth in Bethlehem as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. Micah 5:2 in the NKJV states: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting."
3. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one was where Jesus ascended to heaven, as per Luke 24:50-53?

Answer: Bethany

Christ's ascension to heaven took place at Bethany, as per Luke 24:50-53. Witnessing the spectacle were eleven of the original Twelve Disciples. (Judas Iscariot had committed suicide and was no longer a member of the group.) It was also at Bethany that Jesus raised Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, from the dead. For details about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, see John 11.

In Biblical times, Bethany was a village about two miles from Jerusalem.
4. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one, according to John 1:29 in the NKJV, was a community near which John the Baptist preached a message of the coming Mesiah?

Answer: Bethabara

John 1:24-28 tells of John the Baptist confronting the Pharisees, telling them about the coming of Christ and proclaiming he was not worthy of untying His sandals. Verse 28 states Bethabara was beyond the Jordan River, where John the Baptist baptized scores of people.

While the KJV and the NKJV both use the place name Bethabara, the NIV uses Bethany.
5. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one, according to John 1:44, was the home of Peter, Andrew and Philip?

Answer: Bethsaida

Peter and his brother Andrew, as well as Philip, were all from Bethsaida, according to John 1:44. In addition to being from Bethsaida, all three were members of the original Twelve Disciples. Bethsaida was a fishing community on the northeast shore of the Sea of Galilee.
6. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one, according to John 5:1-15, was the name of a pool where a paralyzed man was miraculously healed by Jesus?

Answer: Bethesda

John 5:1-15 tells of Jesus miraculously healing a paralyzed man by the Pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem. According to the passage, the pool was near the Sheep Gate. No name is given for the man who was healed. The passage states the man had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years.
7. Out of the four place names below starting with the letters 'BET', which community was Jesus near when he requested two of His disciples to find a colt for Him to ride into Jerusalem, as per Luke 19:29?

Answer: Bethphage

The correct answer is Bethphage. Luke 19:29-34 tells of Jesus approaching Bethphage and Bethany "at the mountain called Olivet" when He requested two of His disciples to find a colt for Him to ride into Jerusalem. The two disciples are not named.

Scripture goes on to tell of Jesus riding triumphantly into Jerusalem, with people spreading their clothes on the road and others proclaiming, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"

A short time later, the wonderful reception in Jerusalem would turn deadly sour with Christ arrested, humiliated, tortured and crucified. However, all four Gospels tell of Him triumphantly arising from the dead three days later.
8. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'BET', which one, according to Genesis 22:23 and 24:29, was the father of Rebekah and Laban?

Answer: Bethuel

Bethuel was the father of Rebekah and Laban, according to Scripture. Rebekah married Isaac and became the mother of the first set of documented twins in the Old Testament. The twin boys were Jacob and Esau. Meanwhile, Laban became the father of two girls -- Leah and Rachel -- who both became wives of Jacob.

According to Genesis 25:20 in the NKJV, Bethuel was a Syrian of Padan Aram. (The NIV states Bethuel was an Aramean of Padan Aram.)
9. Fill in the missing word from 1 Peter 3:17 in the NKJV: "For it is _______, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'BET'.)

Answer: better

The missing word from 1 Peter 3:17 is 'better'. (The word 'better' is also used in the verse in the KJV and the NIV.)

1 Peter 3:17 is a simple verse to read, but to willingly accept suffering for doing good can be an entirely different matter.

1 Peter, similar to 2 Peter, was written by Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples. Using the NKJV, 1 Peter consists of five chapters while 2 Peter consists of three chapters.
10. Fill in the missing word from John 6:71 in the NKJV: "He [Jesus] spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would ________ Him, being one of the twelve." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'BET'.)

Answer: betray

The missing word is 'betray'. Scripture tells of the Pharisees giving Judas Iscariot, one of the original Twelve Disciples, thirty pieces of silver to betray Jesus. After the betrayal, Jesus was arrested, humiliated, tortured and crucified but arose from the dead three days later -- just like He said He would.

Scripture tells of Judas being filled with remorse after his betrayal of Jesus, and hanging himself.
