Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the bird God miraculously provided to feed the Israelites while they were travelling from Egypt to Canaan? (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quail

While travelling from Egypt to Canaan, the Israelites were fed quail and manna, miraculously provided by God. According to Exodus 16, God provided the Israelites with quail in the evening and manna in the morning. Manna and quail are also mentioned in the 11th chapter of Numbers.
2. Fill in the missing word from Matthew 27:51 in the NKJV: "Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth _________, and the rocks were split." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quaked

The missing word from Matthew 27:51 in the NKJV is 'quaked'. The earthquake happened immediately after Jesus died on the cross of Calvary. According to the verse, the curtain of the temple was torn in two "from top to bottom" and rocks were split. Verse 52 goes on to tell of graves being opened and dead people coming back to life.

Rather than stating the earth quaked, the NIV says the "earth shook".
3. Fill in the missing word from Jeremiah 2:21 in the NKJV, a verse that quotes God: "Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a seed of highest ________. How then have you turned before Me into the degenerate plant of an alien vine? (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quality

The missing word from Jeremiah 2:21 in the NKJV is 'quality'. The verse is part of a passage in which God, through the prophet Jeremiah, outlines His concerns about how Israel had turned its back on Him.

The word 'quality' is not used in the KJV or the NIV. The KJV states, "Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed..." while the NIV states, "I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock."

Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet.
4. Fill in the missing word from 1 Kings 10:10 in the NKJV. "Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great __________, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quantity

The missing word in 1 Kings 10:10 in the NKJV is "quantity". The verse is part of a passage telling of the Queen of Sheba travelling to Jerusalem with a large caravan to present an array of gifts to Solomon. For details about the royal visit, see 1 Kings 10:1-13.

While scholars have different views as to the location of Sheba, most believe it was in an area which is part of modern day Yemen.
5. Fill in the missing word from 2 Timothy 2:24 in the NKJV: "And a servant of the Lord must not _______ but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quarrel

The missing word from 2 Timothy 2:24 in the NKJV is 'quarrel'. 2 Timothy was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to Timothy, a young worker in the early church. Paul wrote the epistle prior to his execution and it contains his final instructions to Timothy about living the Christian life.

In the NIV, 2 Timothy 2:24 states a Lord's servant must not be "quarrelsome" while the KJV says such a person "must not strive".
6. Fill in the missing word from 2 Chronicles 2:2 in the NKJV: "Solomon selected seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand to ________ stone in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quarry

The missing word from 2 Chronicles 2:2 in the NKJV is 'quarry'. The verse is part of a passage telling of the incredible time and expense devoted to construction of a temple of God in Jerusalem.

The KJV and the NIV do not use the word 'quarry'. Rather the KJV states "fourscore thousand" were employed to "hew" in the mountain. Meanwhile, the NIV states Solomon conscripted eighty thousand stonecutters.
7. Fill in the missing word from Esther 2:11 in the NKJV: "And every day Mordecai paced in front of the court of the women's __________, to learn of Esther's welfare and what was happening to her." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quarters

The missing word from Esther 2:11 in the NKJV is 'quarters'. Mordecai was a cousin of Esther who adopted her and raised her as his daughter after her parents died. She would ascend to become queen of Persia and, along with Mordecai, play a key role in preventing Haman from carrying out a wicked scheme to kill all the Jewish people.

The KJV and the NIV do not use the term 'women's quarters' in Esther 2:11. The KJV describes it as "the court of the women's house" while the NIV states every day Mordecai "walked back and forth near the courtyard of the harem."
8. Fill in the missing word from Revelation 6:6 in the NKJV: "And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, 'A _________ of wheat for a denarius'." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: quart

The missing word from Revelation 6:6 in the NKJV is 'quart'. For the record, the full verse in the NKJV states, "And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, 'A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine'."

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, the prices of wheat and barley are "extraordinarily high."

Revelation 6 tells of a series of calamities that are to envelope the earth.
9. Fill in the missing word from Jude 1:12 in the NIV: "These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest __________ -- shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted-twice dead." (Remember all answers start with the letters 'QUA'.)

Answer: qualm

The missing word from Jude 1:12 in the NIV is 'qualm'. Rather than use the word 'qualm', The NKJV and the KJV voth state the people eat among you "without fear." For the record, the word 'qualm' is not found in the NKJV or the KJV.

Jude 1:12 is part of a passage in which the writer of the epistle states members of the early church were being deceived by false teachers, who were basically agents of Satan.
10. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'QUA', which one was a worker in the early church?

Answer: Quartus

In Romans 16:23 in the NKJV, Paul describes Quartus as a "brother". However, not much is known about Quartus as he is mentioned in passing reference. Romans 16 contains a list of common members of the early church who Paul held in high regard.

Using the NKJV, KJV and the NIV, Quartus is the only name in the Bible starting with the letters 'QUA'. In fact, it is one of only two names starting with the letter Q. The only other name to start with the letter 'Q' is Quirinius, the governor of Syria, as per Luke 2:1.
