The correct word, of course, is 'not'. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, wrote 1 Corinthians as well as 2 Corinthians and the 13th chapter of the first book is affectionately known as The Love Chapter. (The books are titled 1 and 2 Corinthians because they were addressed to believers in Corinth, a community about 50 miles west of Athens in ancient Greece.)

I love the wording of the four verses. Looking at the wonderful wording of the sentences is akin to listening to a world-class orchestra or watching a gold medal athlete perform at the Olympics. In this case, Paul wins the gold medal. It is apparent the church in Corinth was riddled with people who envied, boasted, were rude, self seeking, easily angered and kept a record of wrongs. Paul is telling the believers in Corinth to exhibit love because it "does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Answer: sin

'Sin' is the correct answer. Genesis 4:6-7 in the NIV Bible states: "Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." Later in the chapter readers are told about Cain murdering his brother Abel out of jealousy.

Answer: coins

The correct answer is 'coins'. The verse is from a passage in which Jesus tells His disciples not to worry. Verse 7, in the NIV, goes on to state, "Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible the copper coins mentioned were the smallest coin in circulation, "worth about one-sixteenth of a basic day's wage."

Answer: rains

'Rains' is the correct word. James 5:7-12 is an exhortation for believers in a resurrected Jesus Christ to be patient and persevering.

Although the book is named after James, no one knows for sure who he was. Some believe the book was written by the half-brother of Jesus while others insist the brother of John was the author. Other possibilities are James, the son of Alphaeus and James the father of the apostle called Judas.

Answer: horn

'Horn' is the correct answer. The words are from a song written by David after he gave credit to the LORD for delivering him from the hands of his enemies, including King Saul.

The entire 22nd chapter of 2 Samuel is devoted to David's song of praise. Incidentally, the words from his song have been set to modern music and are performed in various Christian churches around the world.

Answer: Cain

The statement was made by Cain, the world's first murderer, according to Scripture. The question "am I my brother's keeper?" was asked by Cain when Scripture says the Lord wanted to know the whereabouts of Abel. Cain's statement is often used to reflect the view no one should be responsible for the welfare of others.

However, the statement has also been turned around and has given birth to the term 'my brother's keeper'. The term 'my brother's keeper' has been incorporated into everything from the title of a movie to a Christian organization involved in helping the impoverished.

Answer: hint

The correct word is 'hint'. The book of Ephesians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The book was addressed to believers in Ephesus, a community in present-day Turkey.

Notes in the NKJV shed some light on the situation: "Ephesus, with its pagan temple dedicated to the Roman goddess Diana (see Acts 19:23-31), was similar to our society in which sexual immorality and greed ran rampant. Paul warned the believers in Ephesus to avoid these pitfalls."

Answer: this

The correct word, of course, is 'this'. Mordecai made the statement to Esther after he discovered a diabolical plot by Haman to kill all the Jews in the vast area ruled by King Xerxes. (In the KJV and the NKJV, the king is known as Ahasuerus.)

Notes in the NKJV Study Bible have this to state about Esther 4:14: "This verse constitutes the classic reference to the providence of God in the book. Mordecai, by his confidence that relief and deliverance would come from another place, was strongly asserting his faith in God and His promised protection of the Jewish people. God controls all that happens in His world and would intervene with or without Esther. ...Mordecai suggested a providential reason for her becoming queen at this present time in history, that is Esther was acting as God's agent in delivering the Jewish people."

Answer: thorns

The correct answer is thorns. A crown made out of thorns was the soldiers' cruel way of stating Jesus wasn't a king at all. In addition to putting a crown of thorns on His head, Scripture states the soldiers humiliated and savagely beat Jesus. According to John 19:2, the soldiers dressed Jesus in a purple robe to go along with the crown of thorns. In Biblical times, purple was a color associated with royalty and the elite.

Nain is the correct answer. The account of the widow's son being raised from the dead is found in only Luke. The widow and her son are not identified in the account. Incidentally, this is the only time Nain is mentioned in the Old Testament or the New Testament.
