Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to answer this question: Who was the wicked king of Israel who was married to Jezebel? (1 Kings 16:28)

Answer: Ahab

Ahab is the correct answer. He was the son of Omri and the seventh king of Israel. His wife Jezebel is generally regarded as the most wicked woman in the Hebrew Bible, or the Old Testament of the English Bible. As a result of her encouragement, Ahab became a vehement opponent of the prophets of God, most notably Elijah. Ahab's story is told in the 16th to 22nd chapters of 1 Kings.
2. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to answer this question: Who is the second woman mentioned by name in the Bible after Eve? (Spelling is per the KJV, NKJV and NIV. Genesis 4:19.)

Answer: Adah

Adah is the two correct name of the second woman who is identified after Eve. According to Genesis 4:19-20, Adah was married to Lamech and she gave birth to Jabal who "was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock." The same verses state Lamech had a second wife named Zillah.
3. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to answer this question: Who was the king of Judah who, according to the 15th chapter of 1 Kings, "expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made?"

Answer: Asa

Asa is the correct answer. According to 1 Kings 15:13, Asa took a tough stand against his grandmother. The passage, in the NIV Bible, states: "He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down and burned it in the Kidron Valley." According to Scripture, he reigned 41 years over Judah.

And some more trivia about Asa. His name is a palindrome as it can be spelled the same frontwards and backwards. There are a handful of other characters in the Bible that have names that are palindromes with some of the more notable ones being Eve, Hannah and Anna. (Feel free to play another quiz I have posted at FunTrivia titled 'Biblical Names That Are Palindromes.')
4. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to answer this question: From what land did a queen come to pay honor to King Solomon in Jerusalem, as per 1 Kings 10:1-13?

Answer: Sheba

The visit by the Queen of Sheba is recalled in the 10th chapter of 1 Kings and the 9th chapter of 2 Chronicles. Scripture reports she arrived in Jerusalem with "a very great caravan" carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones. Scripture also reports she was "overwhelmed" with Solomon's wisdom and his immense wealth. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Sheba was located in southwestern Arabia, present-day Yemen.
5. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to answer this question: What was the name of the woman Esther replaced as queen, as per Esther 1:9?

Answer: Vashti

Vashti is the correct answer. She was a woman who definitely stood up for her rights and what she believed in. In fact, she could very well have been the world's first women's libber. According to Scripture, Vashti refused a request of the king (known as Xerxes in the NIV Bible and Ahasuerus in the KJV and NKJ) to wear her royal crown and show off her beauty to the assembled people and officials. When she took such a bold step of disobedience, the king disowned her and opted to crown Esther as his queen.

None of this is to take away from Esther, of course. Esther is a true heroine of the Old Testament and it is only right, in my opinion, for people to hold her in high regard. However, to look down on Vashti as a 'disobedient firebrand' misses the point.
6. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to fill in the missing word in Romans 6:23 in the NIV Bible: "For the wages of sin is ____, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Answer: death

The missing word is death. The verse is a classic with many evangelical Christians. The Book of Romans was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, the words 'eternal life' appear no less than 42 times in the New Testament.
7. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to fill in the missing word from Psalm 121:6-7 in the NKJV Bible: "The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your ____ at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night."

Answer: shade

The missing word is shade. Psalm 121 is one of my favorites and I couldn't resist the temptation to share it with you:
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills --
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in.
From this time forth, and even forevermore."
8. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to fill in the missing word from Ephesians 2:8-9 in the NIV Bible: "For it is by grace you have been ____, through faith -- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."

Answer: saved

The missing word is saved. The verse is yet another classic with many evangelical Christians. The book of Ephesians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and was addressed to members of the early church in Ephesus. The community was in Asia Minor, or present-day Turkey.
9. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to fill in the missing word from Revelation 7:16 in the NIV Bible: "'Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them, nor any scorching ____.'"

Answer: heat

The missing word is heat. The Book of Revelation was written by John of Patmos. Christian tradition holds he is the same John who was one of the Twelve Disciples and who also wrote the Gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John and 3 John.

To put the verse in context, here's how Revelation 7:9-17 reads in the NKJV:
"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!' All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:
'Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
Amen.'
Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, 'Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?' And I said to him, 'Sir, you know.' So he said to me, 'These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.'"
10. Unscramble the letters in DAVID & BATHSHEBA to fill in the missing word from 2 Samuel 11:2 in the NIV Bible: "One evening David got up from his ___ and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful."

Answer: bed

The correct word is 'bed'. David, of course, would go on to have an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and, after she became pregnant, he orchestrated a scheme to have her husband Uriah killed in battle. David had a number of wives, according to Scripture, but Bathsheba is the best known. David and Bathsheba were the parents of Solomon, who later replaced David as king.

A son born as a result of their adulterous affair died shortly after birth and was never named, according to Scripture. The story of David and Bathsheba is found in 2 Samuel.
