The leadoff man George Springer hit a game-winning two-run home run in the 11th inning before Dodgers' Charlie Culberson hit a solo home run, which was not enough for the Dodgers. As a side note to this game, the teams combined to hit the World Series record eight home runs in the game and was the first ever MLB game in which five home runs were hit in extra innings.

Yuli Gurriel hit a home run off of Yu Darvish and, after getting back in the dugout, he stretched his eye and said 'chinito' (Chinese word for "little Chinese boy") to Darvish thinking he's Chinese (he's Japanese as a matter of fact). As a result of this, commissioner Rob Manfred suspended Gurriel for the first five games of 2018 season but was allowed to play for the rest of the World Series.

In the top of the fifth inning, Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger gets three runs back by hitting a three-run home run on their own.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, the game was tied again when Jose Altuve hit another three-run home run for the Astros. Though it wasn't a three-run homer, Yasiel Puig hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to get within one run.

With Austin Barnes on second with a double, Chris Taylor brought him home on a single to send the game into extra innings. The other three wrong choices also batted in the ninth and each got into outs.

The Astros' Evan Gattis grounded out and Marwin Gonzalez struck out to start the inning. Brian McCann was hit by pitch then George Springer walked. Manager A.J. Hinch replaced McCann on second with Derek Fisher, who runs faster than McCann. Then Fisher tested his speed when Alex Bregman hit a single to shallow left fielder and Fisher scored from second, immediately giving Astros the win in Game 5 thriller.

With Chris Taylor on third following his RBI double, Corey Seager brought him in with sacrifice fly off of Justin Verlander, giving Dodgers a 2-1 lead that would not relinquish. Verlander suffered his first loss since he joined the Astros seconds before midnight on waiver trade deadline on August 31.

Just like in Game 3, Yu Darvish had a horrible start, pitching only for 1.2 innings and gave up 4 earned runs and one unearned run. The Dodgers went on to score only one run in the entire game, enabling the Astros to win their first ever World Series championship in their second World Series appearance. The Astros won the final game by the final score of 5-1.

George Springer was announced as the World Series MVP winner after hitting a record-tying five home runs in the World Series. The only other players to have hit five home runs in the World Series were Reggie Jackson for the Yankees in 1977 and Chase Utley did it with the Phillies in 2009 (Utley played for the Dodgers in 2017 WS). Springer hit .379 (11-29) with eight extra-base hits and seven RBIs.
