(The Packers were the first sixth-seeded NFC team to make it to the Super Bowl) The Packers at one point led 21-3 but a determined Pittsburgh fightback saw the lead cut to 28-25. The Packers eventually won 31-25. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, with Jordy Nelson catching one and Greg Jennings catching the other two. Roethisberger threw two touchdowns, with Wallace and Ward both catching one.

Rodgers was named Super Bowl MVP after completing 24 out of 39 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions. It was the fourth Super Bowl in the team's history.

Martin was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2012 and was representing his class in the NFL Hall of Fame when he performed the coin toss. The build-up to the game was centred around the theme of revenge after the Giants had defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots had a 13-3 regular season record while the Giants had gone 9-7. The game followed an eerily similar path to the previous Super Bowl between the two franchises with the Giants winning the game after a clutch fourth quarter drive from Eli Manning. The Ravens led 28-6 at one point, but the game eventually ended 34-31 after a spirited comeback attempt by the 49ers, aided by a blackout that delayed the game for over half an hour. Flacco ended the game with 22 completions out of 33 attempts for 287 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Kaepernick had 16 out of 28 for 302 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Linebacker Von Miller was the Super Bowl MVP with six tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. The game was the last of quarterback Peyton Manning's career.

The Patriots trailed for almost the entire game, with Atlanta first taking the lead with 12:15 left in the second quarter. From this point, Atlanta led for the entire game, taking as much as a 25-point lead in the third quarter. Only with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter did Atlanta's lead disintegrate. It was a fifth Super Bowl title for the Patriots, drawing them level with the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. Brady became the only quarterback to win five Super Bowl championships. He also became the first quarterback to win four Super Bowl MVPs, also breaking the Super Bowl record for passing yards (466) during the improbable comeback.

Sony Michel scored the game's only touchdown as the Patriots won 13-3. Julian Edelman won Super Bowl MVP after making 10 catches for 141 yards.

Belichick was the oldest head coach to win the Super Bowl, aged 66. However, Marv Levy was 68 when he coached the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII. Goff was 24 when he played in Super Bowl LIII, but Dan Marino was only 23 when he played in Super Bowl XIX for the Miami Dolphins. The Rams had already played in the Super Bowl representing two cities, having played in Super Bowl XIV representing Los Angeles and Super Bowls XXXIV and XXXVI representing St Louis. The first franchise to do this was the Raiders, represnting Oakland (II, XI and XV) and Los Angeles (XVIII).
