1. The catch (and throw) made by Willie Mays in the 1954 World Series off the bat of Vic Wertz was superb. Who did Wertz play for?

Answer: Indians

The Indians won 111 games that year - but lost to the Giants in four straight. Pinch hitting heroics by Dusty Rhodes.
2. One of the more exciting world series ever occurred in 1960 when the Pirates beat the Yankees in seven games. The seventh game was a wild affair that ended dramatically on a Bill Mazeroski home run. What position did Maz play in the game?

Answer: Infielder

Maz was a second baseman who was more known for defense than for hitting - and certainly wasn't known for hitting with power.
3. Sandy Koufax was the dominant pitcher of his day. He demonstrated his stuff by striking out 15 batters in one game of the 1963 World Series. What team did he defeat?

Answer: Yankees

Awesome pitcher for the Dodgers.

The Reds ("The Big Red Machine") won the series.
5. Ron Swoboda of the Mets made a fantastic catch in the 1969 series against the Orioles. Who was pitching for the Mets at the time?

Swoboda - not known for his defense - made a truly incredible diving catch of a line drive. All of the people named as choices were Mets pitchers at the time.
6. Home run number 61 by Roger Maris in 1961 came in his final game. What was true of the home run?

Answer: It was the only run of the game

Maris won the game 1-0 with his home run off Tracy Stallard. A tough season for Roger, however: fans weren't kind.
7. Don Larsen's perfect game in the world series has to be included. Who was his catcher for that game?

Answer: Yogi Berra

A perfect game is a great accomplishment under any circumstance. It's even more impressive when it's done amidst the stress of a world series.
8. It's hard to believe that a starting pitcher can go through an entire season with an ERA of 1.12 run per game. Who accomplished this?

Answer: Bob Gibson

Gibson was a great power pitcher for the Cards of the 1960's. One run per game? Gibson did this in 1968 with St.Louis. He was 22-9 and had 268 strikeouts in this stellar year. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.
9. The most incredible accomplishment - in my opinion - is pitching back-to-back no-hitters. Who did this?

Answer: Johnny Vander Meer

Do it once - okay. Twice in a career - impressive. Consecutive no-hitters? Unbelievable.
10. The most dramatic moment of all may have been Bobby Thomson's home run off of Ralph Branca in the 1951 playoffs to give the Giants the pennant. Who was pitching for the Dodgers when Branca came on as a relief pitcher?

Answer: Don Newcombe

"The Shot Heard "Round the World". Dramatic because of the great late summer run by the Giants from way back in the standings.
