With the loss of the first day of a three day test to rain, Old Trafford established its unenviable reputation as the rain-centre of England. Lord's also hosted its first test in 1884, whist Trent Bridge had to wait until 1899 to become the fourth English test ground.

Wilfred Rhodes made his debut in WG.Grace's last match. Grace was 50 yrs 320 days old when the match ended. When Rhodes played his final test against West Indies in April 1930 he had become, at 52 years and 165 days, the oldest player to have played test cricket.
