Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is the name of an Oriental martial art that is now a popular sport?

Answer: Taekwondo

Taekwondo is martial art that was developed in South Korea in the 1950s. After witnessing an impressive martial arts display in 1952, South Korean President Syngman Rhee ordered that martial arts be introduced into military training. He later decreed that the various schools and methods be unified into a single system, and in 1955 the name taekwondo, meaning "art of the foot and the fist", was adopted for the new style. Taekwondo later became a sport, and in the year 2000 it became an official medal event at the Olympic Games.

In 2010 it was adopted into the program of the Commonwealth Games.
