Answer: Madison Kodiaks

The Madison Kodiaks came to Kalamazoo on July 27, 2000, to replace the defunct IHL Michigan K-Wings. The Wings were forced to fold after the Dallas Stars ended their affiliation agreement with the Wings. In the IHL an NHL affiliate was a requirement for teams, it was equal to what the American Hockey League is today. Basically it was AAA hockey or one level below the big leagues where an affiliation is a must.
2. Who became the first female to play for the K-Wings on March 18, 2006?

Answer: Molly McMaster

Molly McMaster played for the K-Wings on March 18, 2006, to become the first female to ever play for the Wings. She played a total of 14 games during the 2005-06 season, one for every team in the league. She never got a point, but did get 10 penalty minutes while playing for the Roanoke Valley Vipers.

Answer: Mike Wanchuk

Mike Wanchuk's had his No. 22 jersey retired December 27, 1977. He played with team as rookie during 1974-75, the team's first season, and stayed for six years through the 1979-80 season. During his time there he scored over 80 points 4 times. After the 1979-80 season, he retired and never played again.

This was done in the middle of the 1995 playoffs to please the league that wanted to appeal to a larger market.

Lucas Drake scored just 1:42 into the first OT of game 5 to win the game 4-3 and the series 4-1. It was the first Championship of any kind in Kalamazoo in 26 years. The Colonial Cup was awarded to the winner of the playoffs in the United Hockey League, which went defunct after the 2006-07 season.

Following the 2008-09 season, the K-Wings left the International Hockey League to join the ECHL. The United Hockey League was the league they played in prior to the IHL, from 2000-2007. They then joined the IHL from 2007-2009. The NAHL is a junior league in North America.
