1. The New York Yankees baseball club were founded in 1901 under what name?

Answer: Baltimore Orioles

The original Baltimore Orioles club were founder members of the American League in 1901, and moved to New York in 1903. Their first nickname in the Big Apple was the Highlanders, with the famous Yankees name being adopted in 1913. The team called the Baltimore Orioles who were members of the American League in 2010, are no relation whatsoever to the team which evolved into the Yankees.
2. Which famous German soccer player was nicknamed "The Kaiser"?

Answer: Franz Beckenbauer

Beckenbauer made his Bayern Munich debut in 1974, and won virtually every major honour in the game, including three consecutive European Champions Cups in the 1970s. He made his international debut for West Germany in 1965, and captained them to victory in the 1974 World Cup.

He was appointed national team coach in 1984, and became the first person to both captain and coach a World Cup winning team when they triumphed in Italy in 1990.
3. Who was the first unseeded player to win the men's singles at Wimbledon?

Answer: Boris Becker

Becker was aged just 17 when he won his first Wimbledon title in 1985. The unseeded German defeated Anders Jarryd in four sets in the semis, before defeating Kevin Curran in the final, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
