Barcelona had other ideas though, and despite a PSG away goal, Barcelona managed to net the required 6 goals to win the second leg 6-1 and the tie 6-5, with their final three goals coming in the 88th, 91st and 95th minutes.

Leicester had qualified for the tournament as champions of England, a remarkable feat in itself. They went on to top their group, which consisted of FC Porto, Copenhagen and Club Brugge. In the round of 16 they overturned a 2-1 first leg deficit against the 2015-16 UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla to reach the quarter finals.

Their luck ran out, however, against an Atletico side which had appeared in two of the last three UEFA Champions League finals, and despite their efforts they lost 2-1 on aggregate (0-1 away and 1-1 at home).
