Answer: Two extra officials

An extra official was positioned behind each goal, on the opposite side from the linesmen. This gave officials a more rounded view of the action inside the penalty area. The idea was that this would ultimately lead to fewer mistakes from officials at critical times in matches.

Although Liechtenstein has its own national team, it does not have a domestic league competition. Instead, teams from Liechtenstein compete in the Swiss league. As such, there were no competing teams representing Liechtenstein.

In the final match of the group stage, Miller scored for Rangers in a 1-1 draw in Bursaspor. Miller then transferred to the Turkish champions in January 2011. His career in Turkey was short-lived, however, and he transferred to Cardiff City only six months later.

Despite getting off to a poor start, Tottenham won all three of their home games, against Twente, Werder Bremen and defending champions Inter Milan, and finished top of their group.

Of the other five teams, Bursaspor, Hapoel Tel Aviv and MSK Zilina finished bottom of their groups, while Twente and Braga both finished third in their groups and as such qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League. Braga went on to reach the final of the Europa League, ultimately losing to 1-0 to FC Porto.

After losing the first leg 2-0 at home, managed a respectable goal-less draw in the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Perhaps the shock result of the round saw Tottenham Hotspur, competing in the European Cup/Champsions League for the first time in 40 years, beat 7 time winners of the competition AC Milan, with Peter Crouch scoring the only goal of the tie in the first leg in Milan.

While all four ties in the Quarter-final stage had looked fairly even on paper, three of the first leg matches were won by a margin of 3 goals or more, with Manchester United's meagre 1-0 win over Chelsea promising at least some tension in the second leg.

In fact, all four winners of the first leg at the Quarter-final stage went on to win the second leg too, and progressed to the Semi-finals.

Answer: Pepe

A defence-minded Madrid had managed to hold off Barcelona for most of the first leg, before Brazilian defender Pepe was sent off for a rash foul after 61 minutes. Two goals from Lionel Messi saw Barcelona win 2-0 in an otherwise unexciting match. A 1-1 draw in the return leg in Barcelona was enough to see the Catalan club reach their third final in six seasons.

The Semi-final encounter came amidst four matches between these two teams in just over two weeks. The other two matches saw the two sides draw 1-1 in the league, before Madrid won the Spanish Cup Final with a 1-0 victory in Extra-time.

Answer: Barcelona won 3-1

Both teams went into the final hoping to win the cup for the fourth time in their histories. After a fairly even first half, Barcelona, regarded by many at the time as the best football team in history, began to dominate the game, and won the match 3-1.

This was the third time Barcelona had won the competition in six seasons. All three of these wins had seen them deteat an English club in the final. In 2006, they defeated Arsenal 2-1, before beating Manchester United 2-0 in 2009.

Lionel Messi scored a remarkable 12 goals in 13 appearances in the competition. His nearest rivals in terms of goals scored were Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich, who scored 8 goals from 8 games, and Samuel Eto'o of Inter Milan, who scored 8 goals in 10 games.

While Barcelona were widely regarded as the best football team in history, Messi was regarded as one of the greatest players in history, having been voted Fifa's World Player of the Year two years running, in 2009 and 2010. In fact, in 2010, Barcelona team-mates Xavi and Iniesta were also voted into the top three. This was the first time in history the top three players in the world had all played for the same team.
