The Athletics won three consecutive World Series from 1972-1974. In 1972, the Oakland Athletics met the Cincinnati Reds, who were in the early stages of building their 'Big Red Machine'. The Athletics won the series four games to three. It was a close series in that six games were won by only one run, and three games had a score in the ninth inning. The Reds outscored the Athletics 21-16, but its the win column that counts. Tenace batted .348 with four home runs and nine RBIs.

Cole won the award in 2008, making it 28 years since a Phillies player had won the award being Mike Schmidt in 1980. Some fans question how he won the award with a series record of 1-0 with eight strikeouts in 13 innings. However you say his name, Cole Hamels or Hole Camels, he still won the award. It was a lackluster series with the Phillies defeating the Rays, four games to one.

Answer: Pete Rose

Rose began it all in 1963. He played in 24 seasons, including stints with the Phillies and Expos. Pete went to six World Series, but it was his third in 1975 with the Big Red Machine that he earned the award against the Red Sox. Game six was a historical 12-inning game said to be the most thrilling in series history. The Red Sox won that game, but the Reds came back to win the series. Rose batted .370 by going 10-for-27 in the series. The Reds' Tony Perez also hit three home runs in the series. None of the others were members of the 3000 Hit Club.

Answer: Johnny Podres

Podres was a Dodger pitcher and experienced the franchise's first World Series crown in 1955. The Dodgers defeated the Yankees four games to three. Johnny was in his third season and went 9-10 in 1955. In the series, Podres had two complete game wins. Dodger rookie Sandy Koufax did not pitch in the series.

The World Series was in 1960 which pitted the Yankees against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a Pirate victory when second baseman Bill Mazeroski hit a walk-off ninth inning home run to win it for Pittsburgh, four games to three. The home run was the first series-ending walk-off home run in baseball history. The Yankees outscored the Pirates 55-27 in the series. Richardson batted .367 with two doubles, two triples, a home run, and a record 12 RBIs in the series.

Dye signed as a free agent from the Athletics prior to the 2005 season. His timing was good for Chicago as his 31 home runs helped them to the World Series crown against the Astros. In the series, Dye hit .438 in the four games to none sweep of Houston.
