1. After defeating the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS, then the Angels in the ALCS in 2005, this team went on to win the World Series. Which team was this that skunked the Houston Astros four games to none?

Answer: Chicago White Sox

The 2005 World Series was actually closer than the four games to none stat indicated. The White Sox outscored the Astros by only 20 runs to 14 in the four games. This included the 14 innings of game three. Chicago's Jermaine Dye was the series' MVP. Jermaine had come from the Athletics a season earlier.
2. The Detroit Tigers made it to the World Series in 2006. This was the first season since they appeared in a World Series in what year?

Answer: 1984

1984 was a trip to the promised land for the Tigers. Under the helm of Sparky Anderson, who won his first of two Manager of the Year awards with the Tigers, defeated the Padres four games to one. Sparky won his second award in 1987.
3. The Atlanta Braves went to five World Series in the 1990s. How many World Series crowns did they win in this decade?

Answer: 1

The only series that manager Bobby Cox and company could win was the 1995 series against the Cleveland Indians. The Braves won it four games to two. The MVP was Atlanta's Tom Glavine for winning two games with a 1.29 ERA.

The Blue Jays and White Sox were American League teams and the Padres were the a west coast team. The odd team out were the Reds, who in the 1990 series defeated the Athletics four games to none. In 1988, the A's were defeated by the Dodgers along with the infamous Kirk Gibson home run in game one. Oakland defeated the Giants in the 1989 'Earthquake Series' four games to none, before being skunked themselves by the Reds in 1990.

Answer: Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks under the helm of Bob Brenly and the arm of 2001 NL Cy Young winner Randy Johnson, defeated the Yankees four games to three. Arizona won game seven 3-2 via two runs scored in the bottom of the ninth inning. Both Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling were co-MVPs for the series.
6. Which team had the dubious honor of being the first victim skunked in a World Series in the 21st century in 2004?

Answer: St. Louis Cardinals

The others did not appear in a series from 2001-2004. The Cardinals were the victims of the Boston Red Sox, and not only just victims, but were skunked four games to none. It was the first Red Sox series victory since 1918, breaking the well-documented 'Curse of the Bambino'. Manny Ramirez was the World Series MVP.
7. 1971 saw an American League team which had four 20-game winners in the regular season, lose the World Series four games to three. Which team was this?

Answer: Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles had Dave McNally lead the team with 21 wins, then Jim Palmer, Mike Cuellar, and Pat Dobson all had 20. The Pirates with the help of series MVP Roberto Clemente, put the Orioles in their place.
8. The New York Yankees have built their dynasty on winning World Series. In the 20th century, the Yankees won an amazing 26 World Series. In which decade did they win their first series crown?

Answer: 1920s

The Yankees received the topping of the cake in 1920 with Babe Ruth on their roster. They appeared in their first World Series in 1921 in a loss, and again in 1922 with the same results against the New York Giants. 1923 was money when they prevented the Giants from a three-peat when they defeated the NL club four games to two.
9. Which team won the World Series in 1901 to begin the 20th century?

Answer: There was no World Series in 1901

None of the other teams listed existed in 1901. The season was the first for the new American League to create the new Major Leagues. It would wait until their third season together before the two leagues played for a World Series title in 1903, with Boston of the AL defeating Pittsburgh of the NL.
10. In the first 100 years of Major League baseball with the American and National League, which of the following teams never appeared in a World Series?

Answer: Montreal Expos

The Padres began their franchise in 1969. Their first appearance was in 1984 but lost to the Tigers. The Blue Jays started their franchise in 1977 and won two consecutive World Series in 1992 and 1993. The Senators began their franchise when the American League began in 1901.

They went to three World Series, and won their only crown in 1924 with the help of the arms of Walter Johnson and Tom Zachary.
