1.14 "MitM" - "The Bots and the Bees" Quiz

The boys are first seen searching around their house, looking in trash cans, closets, carpets, and couches. Malcolm is the first to find a coin hidden inside the couch. They run to the arcade and play a game, but quickly run out of lives. They go back home and resume their search. Reese then finds another coin and they run back to the arcade.

The scene ends there, but we can only imagine how many times the children repeated this process!

Answer: Killer

Malcolm and the Krelboynes are all in the Wilkerson home watching a "Battle Bots" video, where robots fight in an open arena. Malcolm thought at first that it was a pornographic film because the Krelboynes were very concerned about getting caught. At first, the protagonist of this show is disappointed, but he gets excited when he sees the damage that those "killer robots" can do.

Malcolm then says that he wishes they could do that. Apparently, the Krelboynes wanted him to say that: they argue that they have the intelligence and "lack of social life" to work on this project, but need Malcolm's house to do it without their parents noticing because the Wilkerson home is a place with a "total lack of caring adult supervision".

Answer: Appendectomy

Hal and Lois are seen packing a bag in their bedroom. Lois is off to see their oldest son Francis, who is in a military academy and had to undergo an emergency surgical removal of his appendix. Hal finds it funny that Francis had to go through this only months after using it as an excuse to miss school. Lois simply replies: "well, he was never very lucky". Later, Francis says that he feels like his belly is "full of broken glass".

An appendectomy, as the name suggests, is the surgical removal of the appendix. The procedure, which is a common one around the world, is needed when the appendix gets inflamed or infected. If left untreated, serious health repercussions could come from the unhealthy appendix.

Answer: French

Francis appears to be in a lot of pain following his appendectomy. To "take his mind off the pain", Commandant Spangler brings Francis several heavy textbooks so he can catch up on his schoolwork. According to Spangler, a long hospital stay is a great opportunity to focus his mind and reflect on his weaknesses. While looking at the hook that replaced his missing hand, Spangler says he learned conversational French when he was in the hospital. Once the Commandant leaves, one of Francis's friends takes the books off of his body.

French, a Romance language, is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It is an official language in several European and African nations, such as Belgium, Switzerland, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, and of course, France. The language is also spoken in other continents; for example, in Haiti and Vanuatu.

Answer: Wear his pajamas to school

Malcolm gathers his brothers and tells them that they have to prioritize what they want to do while Lois is away. Dewey says he wants to wear his pajamas to school. Reese then says he wants to buy a new scope for his BB gun, though Malcolm points out that Reese doesn't even own a BB gun. Malcolm decides his idea of making a robot is the most pressing one, because that way anything that they do after that would "sound reasonable". Malcolm asks Hal for permission to build the robot, and to Malcolm's surprise, Hal rapidly agrees.

Answer: Francis shot Lois

Craig Feldspar is one of Lois's coworkers at the Lucky Aide store. Throughout the series, Craig has romantic feelings for Lois and gets into all kinds of funny situations because of this. In this episode, Craig repeatedly knocks on the door and when Hal opens it, he hugs him and says "be strong". Craig continues by saying that she will get through the operation because she is a fighter. Hal then corrects him and says "it was Francis" to indicate that Francis is the one who had the procedure. However, Craig misinterprets that as if Francis caused Lois to have an operation because he shot her.

He also says that he knew this would happen and Lois should've stayed away from her son. When Hal finally gets a chance to explain what really is going on, Craig's demeanor changes and he calmly leaves the house.

Answer: Lois

Despite his pain, Francis is happy to be in the hospital because that way his mom will feel guilty about sending him to military school in the first place. A fellow cadet in the bed next to him tells him to stop complaining about his mom because nobody can be that bad.

However, when Lois enters the room, the cadet changes his mind. Spangler introduces himself to Lois as Marlin Academy's commandant, but Lois doesn't seem too impressed. Spangler says he is there to pick up Francis's homework, but Lois quickly responds that Francis should not be doing homework when he nearly died. Lois calls the commandant an "idiot" and kicks him out of the room. To the surprise of everyone, Spangler agrees to leave, and he then says to himself: "she is magnificent".

Seemingly trying to seduce Lois, Commandant Spangler invites her to a rodeo taking place in town, but Lois politely declines. Lois then gives Francis a sponge bath. Francis, dramatic as always, claimed that he almost died and that his mom has no way of comprehending the pain he was in. Without hesitation, Lois sarcastically replies that she knows nothing about pain despite going through the birth of four children.

She also adds that her total time in labor between the four children was 112 hours, out of which half were just on Francis's birth! Francis apologizes for "coming out feet first", for which Lois says she forgave him years ago.

Answer: Chair

Without Lois to accompany him, Hal spends all night awake. He tells Malcolm that not sleeping at all helped him be productive, so he decided to help the boys out with their killer robot. Malcolm is amazed to see the progress Hal made on the robot. When they first try it out, the robot splits a wooden chair in half. The Krelboynes are upset that Hal "commandeered" the project and want to pull out of the competition. Hal has an even more evil idea: to have bees shoot out of the robot to attack the person controlling the other robot.

Lois's absence is also having an effect on the boys: Dewey has a "sugar high" from drinking so much soda and Reese and Malcolm have played over 40 video games.

Answer: Lois II

After not sleeping for four days, Hal appears to be losing his mind. He has made the killer robot, which he named Lois II after his wife, even more sophisticated and dangerous. When Craig drops by to deliver Lois's paycheck, he tries to intervene at Malcolm's request. Hal, however, is not threatened by Craig. Instead, Malcolm steals the robot's remote control and warns his dad that he will use it if necessary. After a brief scuffle, the robot is accidentally activated and it releases a large swarm of bees that end up covering Hal's body! They all decide that it's best to do nothing until Lois gets back home.

The actor who plays Hal, Bryan Cranston, actually wore a bee suit with thousands of live bees and was stung by one of them!
