Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ensign Mayweather and Captain Archer begin the episode unconscious in a prison cell. Archer wakes up first and finds the door to their cell unlocked.

Answer: False

In the opening scene (before the title sequence), Ensign Mayweather wakes up on a simple pallet in a spartan room, with Captain Archer lying on another mat beside him. He tries to nudge the captain awake, but to no avail. When he gets up and tries to open the cell door, he is surprised to find it unlocked. Even more surprising are the two Suliban he sees walking in the hall outside their cell.

Scott Bakula played the role of Captain Jonathan Archer, while Ensign Travis Mayweather was portrayed by Anthony Montgomery.
2. What race of aliens are being held in the detention facility with the two Starfleet officers?

Answer: Suliban

The Suliban were first seen in the opening two-part episode "Broken Bow", then again in the eleventh episode, "Cold Front". Could they be being held by the Cabal, the sect of genetically enhanced Suliban that are part of the Temporal Cold War?
3. Archer and Mayweather are brought before Colonel Grat, the officer in charge of the Detention Complex 26. Which actor, who worked with Scott Bakula in "Quantum Leap", played the role of Col. Grat?

Answer: Dean Stockwell

This marked the first time that Dean Stockwell and Scott Bakula had worked together since finishing their run on "Quantum Leap" (1989-1993). Stockwell played the role of Rear Admiral Albert "Al" Calavicci, the man who kept in touch with Bakula's time-hopping character, Dr. Sam Beckett.

While Stockwell has worked with many "Star Trek" actors over the years, this was his first appearance in any "Trek" series or movie.
4. According to Col. Grat, what 'crime' had Archer and Mayweather committed that earned them their incarceration.

Answer: They flew into a restricted military zone.

During their interview with Col. Grat, Archer and Mayweather learn that their shuttlepod had been attacked after they flew too close to a planet that was within a restricted military zone. The Tandarans detained them along with the Suliban, believing that they could be shape-shifting Cabal members on a spying mission.

A DNA test upon their arrival at the complex (along with the data found within the shuttlepod's computer) showed that they were, in fact, not Suliban. Regardless, Col. Grat explains that they must still attend a hearing in front of a magistrate to clear everything up.
5. Colonel Grat contacts the Enterprise and tells Sub-Commander T'Pol that they must go to the Central Magistrate's Office to attend Archer and Mayweather's hearing in three days' time... located on which planet?

Answer: Tandar Prime

Tandar Prime is the home planet of the Tandaran race, who control a region of space called the Tandar Sector. After the Suliban homeworld became uninhabitable (some 300 years previously), some of them came to live on Tandar Prime.

However, following the ascension of the Suliban Cabal, the Tandarans found themselves at war, and in much the same manner as the Japanese internment camps (in the United States and Canada during World War II), many 'normal' (unenhanced) Suliban were rounded up and placed into various different detention facilities throughout the Tandaran Sector.

Sub-Commander T'Pol was played by Jolene Blalock.
6. Col. Grat learns that Captain Archer has information that he wants, and he finds a pretext to delay his magistrate's hearing. How long does he say it will be until the next transport to the homeworld?

Answer: 60 days

Col. Grat learns of Archer's history with the Cabal, and demands information. Archer, not liking Grat's strong-arm tactics, refuses to cooperate. In return, Grat threatens to delay the magistrate hearing, meaning that they would have to remain in detention for at least the next 60 days.

When Col. Grat contacts the Enterprise again to inform them that there will be a (nonspecific) delay, Ensign Sato is able to trace the signal back to the location of the moon with Detention Complex 26.

Ensign Hoshi Sato was portrayed by Linda Park.
7. The Enterprise finds the location of the detention facility, and they beam two phase pistols down to Captain Archer and Ensign Mayweather.

Answer: False

It is a communicator that is beamed down. Rather than accept the offer to be beamed up, though, Archer elects to stay in the detention complex in order to help the wrongfully imprisoned Suliban escape as well.

Unfortunately, Col. Grat detects the use of the communicator technology, and Archer is placed into solitary confinement.
8. What is the name of the alien prisoner who is working with Archer and Mayweather to plan a mass escape from the detention complex?

Answer: Danik

Danik and Sejan are friends in the complex, but Sejan refuses to participate in Archer's plans, believing that they are actually plants by Col. Grat to cause dissension and to give an excuse for the guards to kill the Suliban in a fake 'escape'.

Narra is not a conspirator, but rather is the young daughter of Danik.

Klev is not a Suliban - he is one of the Tandaran military officers.

Dennis Christopher played Danik, Christopher Shea was Sajen, David Kagen played Klev, and young Narra was portrayed by Jessica D. Stone.
9. Dr. Phlox surgically alters one of the Enterprise crew to look like one of the alien prisoners as part of the rescue plan. Who undergoes this transformation?

Answer: Lieutenant Reed

Malcolm (Reed) is able to beam down to the planet undetected while T'Pol is in communication with Col. Grat ... she is able to overload the installation's computers by data dumping Earth's historical database, the Starfleet Charter, and the Vulcan database over the communication link.

In disguise and with weapons, Malcolm is able to free both Mayweather and Archer from their respective confines.

Lieutenant Malcolm Reed was played by Dominic Keating, while John Billingsley portrayed Dr. Phlox.
10. Who pilots the shuttlepod that effects the rescue of the prisoners?

Answer: Commander Tucker

Between Trip (Tucker) in the shuttlepod and Malcolm on the ground with demolitions and phase pistols, they are able to break down the defenses of the detention complex. At the same time, in orbit, the Enterprise fights off and disables the Tandaran patrol ship that attacks them.

In the end, Col. Grat claims that the escape of the prisoners will just make things worse for them, as they will not be welcomed back to their homes in Tandaran society, and will likely be drawn to the Cabal.

Connor Trinneer played the role of Commander Charles Tucker III.
