1. Who played young Jonathan Archer in the opening scene?

Answer: Marty Davis

All four actors were in the episode. Bakula played the adult Jonathan Archer, Moses played Archer's father in the opening scene, and Beaver played a Starfleet officer in a couple of scenes. Moses appeared in one episode of the show "Bette" and as an unnamed "boy" in the short film "Luka" before his appearance in the 2-part "Enterprise" pilot. He never had another acting credit.

The Kreetassans are escorted from the ship by the Captain along with Commander Tucker and Sub-Commander T'Pol, and with Ensign Sato trying to translate. Unfortunately, the aliens leave without anyone from the Enterprise NX-01 figuring out why they were so suddenly offended. The officers in the opening cut were played by Scott Bakula (Archer), Connor Trinneer (Tucker), Jolene Blalock (T'Pol), and Linda Park (Sato). Their Kreetassan counterparts were portrayed by Vaughn Armstrong, Mark Major, and Louis Ortiz.

The Ferengi made their first appearance in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in the fifth episode of season one, entitled "The Last Outpost". Since that time, the Ferengi and their insatiable desire for riches and commerce have been a mainstay of the "Star Trek" universe. But how to include the Ferengi in a prequel series without ruining the niceties of the "Star Trek" timeline? Easy, never give a name to the species in their one and only encounter. It would be more than 200 years before the next official encounter between the Ferengi and the Federation.

"The Captain in Command," Trip exclaims. Scott Bakula played the role of Captain Jonathan Archer, Commander Charles Tucker III was played by Connor Trinneer, and Lieutenant Malcolm Reed was portrayed by Dominic Keating.

The Arachnid Nebula is on the cover of Archer's astronomy book, which is entitled "The Cosmos A to Z", with the further description: "Your complete guide to the heavens Stars - Planets - Nebulae - Galaxies Including the Terra Nova expedition" The Arachnid Nebula is a fictional nebula created for "Star Trek: Enterprise", while the other three options are real nebulae. And you may remember the Terra Nova expedition from Episode 6 of this season, appropriately entitled "Terra Nova". Captain Jonathan Archer was played by Scott Bakula, while Jolene Blalock played the part of Sub-Commander T'Pol.

At the beginning of the episode, Tucker and Reed are experiencing problems with the shuttlepod. They have lost communications and sensors, and are unable to locate the Enterprise, which was in the process of mapping an asteroid field when the left on their mission. What their mission was is revealed later in the episode when Lieutenant Reed records a log of the events leading up to their predicament. He states that in order to carry out tests on the shuttlepod's targeting scanners, they had to be at least 20,000 kilometres distant from the Enterprise. During their third trial, something happened to cause the aforementioned malfunctions. Commander Charles Tucker III was played by Connor Trinneer, while Lieutenant Malcolm Reed was played by Dominic Keating.

Malcolm is training Hoshi with the new phase pistol, specifically working on her accuracy. When firing the older model EM-33, one needed to compensate for particle drift, which is not longer required with the new pistols. Despite achieving a less than 50% accuracy, they decide to postpone further training when they feel the Enterprise drop out of warp - something that shouldn't be happening for days. Lieutenant Reed was played by Dominic Keating, while Linda Park played the part of Ensign Sato.

We never see Dr. Lucas in this episode, but we do meet him in person eventually (in Season 4). The two doctors are part of the Interspecies Medical Exchange, an initiative of the Vulcan High Command designed that includes many species of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Phlox makes a point of advising caution to his medical friend, as the mating season on Denobula can be very complicated. Dr. Phlox was played by John Billingsley.

Two subspace amplifiers - Echo 1 and Echo 2 - are launched, which will allow the Enterprise to extend the range of their subspace communication to Earth. Immediately following the launch of Echo 2 and the confirmation that the two amplifiers are in communication with each other, the alien vessel drops out of warp and holds at a distance of 12 kilometers. Sub-Commander T'Pol - usually knowledgeable about the different species that have already been encountered by the Vulcans - does not recognize the ship configuration. Sub-Commander T'Pol was played by Jolene Blalock.

They both commiserate over the poor choice of movie, and Lt. Reed also joins in on the conversation. It is noted that there are more than 50,000 movies in the database to choose from, and surely *something* better could have been picked. Ensign Travis Mayweather was played by Anthony Montgomery, Ensign Hoshi Sato was portrayed by Linda Park, and Lt. Malcolm Reed was played by Dominic Keating.

Captain Keene and his XO (Executive Officer) Matthew Ryan are in one of the holds (modules) of their cargo ship throwing a football in low gravity when the attack comes. Keene calls for a report immediately, and the bridge officer who answers him says that the Nausicaans are attacking again. Captain Keene was played by Charles Lucia, and XO Ryan was played by Lawrence Monoson.

Answer: Akaali

Captain Archer's senior staff plays a bit of a trick on him in the opening scene of the episode. Coming into the Situation Room, Archer receives a report of what there is of interest within sensor range. First, Sub-Commander T'Pol mentions a supernova remnant, then a cluster of three neutron stars. Commander Tucker can't help but crack a smile as he mentions the third option - a Minshara (Class M) planet. The Akaali look very much like humans, with the exception of a pair of small ridges extending vertically up above the outer edges of their eyes. They have a pre-industrial culture, similar to Earth of the 16th or 17th centuries. Captain Jonathan Archer was played by Scott Bakula, Sub-Commander T'Pol by Jolene Blalock, Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker III by Connor Trinneer, and Ensign Hoshi Sato by Linda Park.

Andorians are blue-skinned with white hair and two cranial antennae. They are depicted as being suspicious and volatile. As relatively close neighbours with the Vulcans, their relationship has not always been good, and even though they have a treaty relationship, the Vulcans and Andorians are in the equivalent of a cold war. The leader of the Andorian commandos is Thy'lek Shran, who was played by Jeffrey Combs. His three subordinates were Tholos (Steven Dennis), Keval (Jeff Ricketts), and Thon (Gregg Sargeant).

The Human Space Agency had already managed to colonize parts of our own solar system before the discovery of a new habitable planet. The effort to colonize Terra Nova became known as 'The Great Experiment.' The new colony proved to be very successful, and the Space Agency wanted to send another ship of colonists to join the first. This idea was not well-received by the existing colonists, who argued vehemently against the plan. Soon after, all contact with the colony was lost.

The gravity plates on E deck malfunctioning is but one of the problems that are plaguing the Enterprise as the show begins. This scene, however, provides some comic relief, as all the water from the shower is floating around in globules, and just as Archer receives word that the gravity should be restored 'any minute now', it is, causing him to unexpectedly fall with no time to prepare for it. Scott Bakula played the part of Captain Jonathan Archer.

Before the opening credits, two crewmen are talking in the mess - Elizabeth Cutler and Ethan Novakovich - when they see a planet through the porthole. Cutler was played by Kellie Waymire, while Henri Lubatti played Novakovich.

Everyone on board (except, perhaps, for T'Pol) is feeling a little antsy, hoping for something of significance to happen. Ensign Hoshi Sato was played by Linda Park, while Dr. Phlox was portrayed by John Billingsley.

Sarin was the same Suliban contact that Klaang had met with on his previous visit to Rigel X. She was the one that had passed on the information about the Suliban plot to sow dissent within the Klingon Empire. Sarin was no longer a member of the Cabal, and was now working against them. In the course of their conversation, Sarin reveals to Captain Archer that the Suliban are only taking orders from someone from the future, and that their actions are part of a 'temporal cold war'. Before Sarin can give Archer any proof, they are attacked by the Suliban Cabal, and Sarin dies in the ensuing firefight. The Enterprise crew were played by Scott Bakula (Archer), Connor Trinneer (Tucker), Jolene Blalock (T'Pol), and Linda Park (Sato). Sarin was portrayed by Melinda Clarke.

Ensign Travis Mayweather was played by Anthony Montgomery.
