3.04 "Passing Through Gethsemane" Quiz

Brother Theo and Sheridan match wits in a game of chess where an arrogant Sheridan loses rather embarrasingly, with Brother Edward and Ivanova looking on. Brother Theo attributes his win to "divine inspiration."

Lyta tells Sheridan that ever since she scanned Kosh in "The Gathering" she has wanted to know more. She was recalled and later escaped from the Psi Corps to stop the Talia, the sleeper personality of Control, in "Divided Loyalties". Before leaving the station again she paid a visit to Kosh in his quarters.

Kosh invites Ivanova to Bay 13 as a formality. Ivanova: "Ambassador, you want to see me?" Kosh: "Yes. Formality. Ritual. You should be informed." Ivanova: "Informed of what?" Kosh: "Returning." Lyta then disembarks from the ship.

Lyta says that she found a transport to take her to the borders of Vorlon space. She was left in a life pod when the transport wouldn't wait around any longer. She drifted for 5 days trying to reach out telepathically, and was almost at the point of death when they finally rescued her.

Answer: G'Kar

In "The Gathering" G'Kar and the assassin (actually looking like Lyta) meet in the alien sector where the assassin notes G'Kar's lack of a breathing mask. G'Kar explains that he has gill implants so he can breathe in the toxic atmsphere.

Part of Lyta and Londo's encounter in a hallway. Londo: "Lyta! I understand the PsiCorps is looking for you. I would hate very much for them to find you." Lyta: "So would I. Because I'm not with the Corps anymore. That means I'm not bound by their rules. So if someone were to turn me in, I'd find him. And before they took me, I'd plant a nightmare deep in his mind where no one else could find or remove it, and that person would spend every night, for the rest of his life, screaming." Londo: "Fine! And keep your threats to yourself! Nightmares.

The way my life has been going lately, who'd notice?"

Garibaldi and Delenn discuss the mindwipe compared to the death penalty. Garibaldi thinks that the mindwipe lets the criminal off too easy. Garibaldi: "You know, guys like this make me long for the days of the electric chair. Hell, sometimes I think we need electric bleachers."

Answer: black

The black rose was the calling card of this serial killer and was therefore given the name the Black Rose Killer.

Answer: "The Excorcist II" (1977)

Brad Dourif is one of my favorite character actors. He played Grima Wormtongue in "Two Towers", was the voice of Chucky in all the "Child's Play" movies, and played Piter De Vries in "Dune". He did not appear in "The Excorcist II," but did appear in "The Excorcist III." Another notable appearance was as Ensin Sudor in "Star Trek: Voyager."

The words Death Walks Among You were written in blood on the walls of his quarters. Brother Edward rushes off to get Garibaldi, but when they get there, the walls are clean.

This is more of the encounter between Londo and Lyta. Londo: "I was just surprised to see you, that's all. Do you know, that I was thinking about you just the other day. My extremely overpaid sources told me that you have been seen arriving here in a Vorlon transport. Now, they are profoundly unreliable pool of information on the best of days, so I said: 'No, it can not be her.

The Vorlons do not pick up hitch-hikers. Not even one as attractive as you. Besides, if it were you, surely you would come by and say hello to your old friend, Londo."

Brother Theo also appeared in the episodes "Convictions" and "And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place."

Answer: Centauri

Brother Edward bumps into the Centauri, where he begins to hallucinate about one of the murders.

Answer: Charles Dexter

Charles Dexter killed 9 people before being captured. He was sentenced to mindwipe. Garibaldi explains that he survived a fire where he was presumed dead. He joined the monks where his programmed personality urged him to serve society.

Answer: Jesus

The title of the episode refers to the events leading to the arrest of Jesus of Nazareth in the Bible. Jesus, knowing he was betrayed, spent his last hours praying in the Garden of Gethsemane outside of Jerusalem. Brother Edward, unable to adjust to the reality of his former life, waits out the arrival of his victim's relatives with prayer.

He accepts his fate, just as Jesus did at Gethsemane. The torture that Brother Edward endured is reminiscent of the Crucifiction and death of Jesus.

Lennier begins to describe the history of Valen to Brother Edward while they exchange thoughts on their respective religions. Delenn stops Lennier from saying anything further on the subject.

Part of the conversation between Delenn and Garibaldi regarding the death penalty. Garibaldi: "Oh, I'm an eye-for-and-eye, tooth-for-a-tooth kind of guy, Ambassador." Delenn: "So you support a system that would leave everyone blind and toothless." Garibaldi: "No, not everyone, just the bad guys."

Brother Edward's murderer is sentenced to mindwipe. Once he receives his new personality he is handed over the Brother Theo to be trained as a monk, becoming Brother Malcolm.

Brother Edward sought to learn about the many faces of god by talking the Delenn and Lennier about Minbari beliefs. Delenn: "We do not believe in any individual god or gods, but rather, we believe that the soul is, ah, what is a good term, a non-localized phenomenon." Brother Edward: "I'm not sure I understand what that means." Lennier: "Well, if I project a beam of light at the wall, you see the light on the wall, but the wall is not the source of the light.

It comes in from somewhere else. The soul is also a projection.

It does not exist inside us, any more than the light exists inside the wall, but this shell is the only way we can percieve it." Delenn: "We believe that the universe itself is conscious in a way we can never truly understand.

It is engaged in a search for meaning, so it breaks itself apart, investing its own consciousness in every form of life. We are the universe, trying to understand itself."

Sheridan: "Where does revenge end and justice begin? Forgiveness is a hard thing, isn't it, Theo?" Brother Theo: "I don't think anything can ever be more difficult."
