While Kevin was in a car with Congressman Lopez's staff, he mentioned that he was attending a fundraiser to discuss a project called Pure Water Now. The project aimed at delivering clean water to families all across the globe. The woman heading it said Congressman Lopez was one of the chief supporters of the project and she was indebted to him.

Kevin was at the event keeping a close eye on anyone who may harm Congressman Lopez and he noticed that someone behaved strangely. He saw the guy had a bottle with blood contained inside of it. The person disapproved of Congressman Lopez seeming to endorse drone strikes that, per his words, killed innocent children. Kevin had the gentleman escorted from the event.

Kevin took his eye off Lopez for a quick second and this was when shots rang out. Congressman Lopez and Carolyn were both shot. Carolyn did not survive her surgery and died at the hospital.

Congressman Lopez was grief stricken about Carolyn's death so he thought of ways to honor her. He told his staff while recuperating at the hospital that he would like to start a fund in Carolyn's honor. He felt a great project to fund would be scholarships for kids all across the country.

Kevin chased someone who wore a grey suit after shots rang out that injured Congressman Lopez and Carolyn. At the hospital, Congressman Lopez mentioned that he saw a person in a gray suit moments before shots rang out. After looking at surveillance footage, the person in the gray suit was identified as a political activist named Eric Chambers. He was brought in for questioning.

During the investigation, a hotel employee mentioned that she saw Carl Shelton and Eric Chambers talking at the hotel just shortly before Carolyn was shot. During the evening, Carl Shelton mentioned to Congressman Lopez that he would never be President. This led the team to wonder if Carl Shelton was the one who killed Carolyn.

The team realized that Eric Chambers had a press pass to the event and that pass helped him cause a scene there. After looking at some surveillance footage, they realized that the press pass was placed in Eric Chambers. Kevin was shocked to learn that Frank Kelly, his brother-in-law, planted the press pass in the mailbox.

During the investigation, Kate noticed that there was a second phone which Carolyn had registered. She realized that the reason for this was due to Carolyn and Congressman Lopez having an affair. As a result, the team wondered if Congressman Lopez's wife, Mia, was behind the shooting.

Despite how there were a couple of suspects with motive to commit murder on Carolyn, it turned out that the killer was Megan Brooks. Megan was Congressman Lopez's Chief of Staff and worried that, had Lopez sought the presidency, he would cast her aside. Feeling insecure about this potential outcome, she snapped and killed Carolyn.
