Hayley was with two people she was involved with previously as a spy and they had an assignment. Their client suspected that her husband was cheating on her. They broke into his place and Hayley placed a bug on the computer to upload spyware.

Hayley and her partner, Marcus, watched the client's spouse getting intimate with another woman. She left while Marcus stayed behind to complete his portion of the job. Later on, a woman discovered Marcus's body while vacuuming.

Castle was at his private investigation office when he got a call that a murder happened at Manchester Energy. Hayley started to get concerned because that was where she and Marcus were to do their job. She asked Castle if they identified the victim and all Castle told her was that it was a male.

While the team was at the crime scene, Hayley noticed some breath mints near Marcus's hand. She got it and suggested that they could identify the victim using the breath mints. In a flashback, Hayley recalls giving Marcus the breath mints.

Hayley contacted her supervisor from MI6 to tell him that Marcus was dead. He said he knew about it and then confessed that there was no cheating husband or angry wife but that he had to lie about it. He told Hayley that he could not inform her why but that all she had to know was Code 44. Hayley had no idea what this meant.

As the opening credits rolled, Javier and Kevin spoke with someone named Ned Werner since he logged into his work computer during the window of the murder. Ned stated that he was asleep at that time but he was informed about logging into his computer just minutes before the murder. Hayley got angry because she noticed a lipstick mark on his neck and figured he was lying about being alone at his job.

Hayley eventually confessed that she knew Marcus and then she checked something on her phone. She saw that $10 million was wired into her account so she was curious as to how this occurred. Castle said that it appeared as if it was wired to frame her for Marcus's murder. Kate told Hayley there was a warrant out for her arrest.

Castle got another piece of information on the case: Ned and Karla were at a bar before they headed to Manchester Energy. Castle said it would be hard to trace anything on Karla since Ned paid the bill.

Midway through the show, a special agent from MI6 showed up at Castle's private investigation office and he identified himself as Steven Mallory. Mallory asked about Hayley's whereabouts since he was there to arrest her. Mallory informed Castle that they had a lot of evidence against Hayley in regards to Marcus's murder and warned him to be careful since Hayley was dangerous.

The team got a lead that Karla might be the one who killed Marcus so they went to her apartment. She ran out of it so they caught her and handcuffed her. Karla assured them that she was innocent and that, right after she left Manchester Energy, she went straight home without killing anyone. Her alibi checked out so she was released.
