Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode begins in a flashback with Jimmy's friend Marco in a bar in Cicero, Illinois. What is Marco doing at the bar?

Answer: Bar bets

At the cost of a $20 bill, Marco amazes two young bar customers at his ability to remove the bill without upsetting a bottle cap. When the men ask how he does it, Marco asks if they have another twenty.
2. A somber Slippin' Jimmy gets out of jail and meets Marco in their regular bar hangout. What announcement does he make that surprises his friend?

Answer: He is moving to New Mexico

Jimmy explains to Marco that his latest run-in with the law necessitated his brother flying in from Albuquerque, and that he needs to make big changes in his life. As Jimmy tries to console his friend, an impatient Chuck is waiting in a taxi whose driver is beginning to honk the horn.
3. The episode flashes forward to Jimmy, decked out in his "Matlock" suit, sitting in the Hamlin Hamlin & McGill waiting area. After turning over his multi-million dollar nursing home suit to Howard Hamlin and receiving a $20,000 referral fee, what does Jimmy give Howard?

Answer: List

Jimmy takes very good care of his eccentric brother and tends to his every need, including bring ice daily to Chuck's non-electrical home. After he discovers that it is Chuck that torpedoes any chance of his working with the Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill firm, Jimmy cuts all ties to his brother.

While always gracious, Chuck later expresses to a law firm employee his dissatisfaction with the gofer's apple selection.
4. The break-up with his brother and the loss of his big case weigh on Jimmy's mind as he tries to host a bingo session at the nursing home. As is his custom, he makes some funny comment after calling each number. Oddly, he begins to pull a series of the letter B from the bingo machine and becomes very emotional. What B word begins his meltdown?

Answer: Betrayal

Jimmy's young bingo assistant frowns as her boss seems to be distracted while he calls numbers. Jimmy's usual witty and ceaseless banter goes away as he pulls the first of a series of B numbers. While often making a comment on each letter called, Jimmy struggles for a B word and finally blurts out "betrayal" as he slowly melts down over the break up with his brother.
5. Jimmy returns to Cicero and finds his friend Marco asleep at the bar at 4PM. After a warm reunion and a welcoming back of "Slippin Jimmy", what object do the friends use to con another bar customer?

Answer: Coin

Marco comments that he thought Jimmy would look different after ten years in New Mexico. Apparently the passage of time is meaningless as the two old friends immediately commence to con an innocent bar customer with a phony rare Kennedy half dollar.
6. Why does Jimmy impersonate Kevin Costner?

Answer: To get a woman

"You're not Kevin Costner", a partially dressed woman exclaims as she takes a closer look in the morning sunlight at Jimmy as he sleeps beside her. "I was last night", he replies. True "Breaking Bad" fans may recall Saul bragging about this ruse to Walter White.
7. After a week of partying and conning with Marco, Jimmy checks his phone messages and discovers several from his elder clients. He informs a saddened Marco that he must return to Albuquerque, but, after much pleading by Marco, agrees to one last fake Rolex watch scam. What goes wrong with the con?

Answer: Marco dies

In an earlier episode Jimmy and a drinking buddy are walking down an alley when they discover an unconscious man with a wallet full of money and a Rolex watch. They discuss how to divide the windfall and ultimately the drinking pal gives Jimmy the wallet and additional cash and keeps the watch.

After Jimmy's cohort leaves, the two con men have a good laugh about the fake Rolex. This time, Marco is not faking unconsciousness but is in cardiac distress and dies in the alley.
8. Kim advises Jimmy that the big nursing home case is too big for Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. A big Santa Fe law firm is being brought on board and they are interested in offering Jimmy a job. What is the real reason they want Jimmy?

Answer: To handle clients

At first flattered by the opportunity to work for a prestigious law firm, Jimmy realizes that there must be some ulterior motive. Kim explains that all of the clients are asking about him and he needs to continue to charm them.
9. Jimmy drives to the courthouse to meet the lawyers from the Santa Fe law firm at a preliminary hearing on the nursing home case. What happens as he scurries toward the building?

Answer: He turns around and leaves

Jimmy's behavior and demeanor in the closing scenes of the first season show a man with numerous inner conflicts regarding right and wrong. As Jimmy walks away from a dream job opportunity we will have to wait for season two to learn his motives.
10. In the last scene of the season, Jimmy and Mike have a brief heart-to-heart conversation at the parking lot attendant's booth. Jimmy questions why neither he nor Mike tried to take any part of the Kettlemans' $1.6 million in cash. Mike explains that he has a personal code of only doing the job he is hired to do. What does Jimmy say to Mike as he drives away?

Answer: "I know what stopped me and it's never stopping me again."

For the ten episodes of season one Jimmy struggles with morality. "Slippin'" Jimmy is a small-time conman. Lawyer Jimmy helps elderly people and returns $1.6 million in cash to its rightful owner. When will Jimmy McGill become Saul Goodman? Only producer-writers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould know for sure.
