Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I have my own show. I "just won't be undone. Playing pranks on everyone." Which cat am I?

Answer: Heathcliff

In 1980, "Heathcliff" premiered. It was based on the comic strip of the same name. Heathcliff was an orange cat that was always getting into trouble. Mel Blanc voiced him. He also voiced Spike the dog and the milkman.
2. I also starred in my own show, but I am a mouse. "Oh, Penfold, shut up!" Now, as I was saying, do you know what my show was called?

Answer: Danger Mouse

"Danger Mouse" premiered in 1981. It was a British cartoon that was seen in America as well. David Jason voiced Danger Mouse. A secret agent working for Colonel K. Danger Mouse's sidekick was Ernest Penfold, a hamster voiced by Terry Scott.
3. So, we are a family of little blue boys and one blue girl. Papa takes care of all of us. Do you know who we are?

Answer: The Smurfs

"The Smurfs" first premiered in 1981. It was initially a Belgium series but then came to America under Hanna-Barbera. The Smurfs all lived in mushroom houses in Smurf Village. About 100 Smurfs live in the village. Brainy Smurf (the smart one who wears glasses), Hefty Smurf (the strong one), Handy Smurf (the carpenter-type one), Smurfette the only girl smurf (until the smurflings were introduced later and then Sassy was also female), and Papa Smurf. Papa was the Smurf in the red hat.

The rest wore white hats.

Their main enemy was Gargamel and his cat Azrael. They used the word "smurf" in many ways, including swearing (though I didn't get that as a child) such as "Smurf it!"
4. I was in a Japanese cartoon the came out in the '70s. However, it was in 1982 that I flew to America. I am a bee; do you know my name?

Answer: Maya

"Maya the Bee" aired in the United States for the first time in 1982. Maya was a young bee filled with adventure. Maya was raised by her teacher Miss Cassandra but left the hive to see the world.
5. Let me introduce myself. My name is Tye Tiger. These are my friends Pammy Panda, Digger Mole, Rick Raccoon, and Bogey Orangutan. Do you know what we are called collectively?

Answer: Shirt Tales

"Shirt Tales" first premiered in 1982 and were based on characters on Hallmark cards. They drove the "Shirt Tales Supersonic Transport" (aka STSST). Their shirts displayed messages of what they were thinking.
6. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" came out in 1983. I - Alvin - and my brothers Simon and Theodore live with the man who manages our music career and is like a father to us. Do you know his name?

Answer: David Seville

Along with Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, this show introduced the Chipettes: Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor, who were both friends and rivals of the Chipmunks. The show ran for eight seasons. The Chipette's "mother" was named Beatrice Miller.
7. I am He-man, but do you know who my alter ego is?

Answer: Prince Adam

"He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" debuted in 1983. Adam turned into He-man by holding the Sword of Power and exclaiming, "By the power of Greyskull!" When he changed, his pet tiger Cringer became Battle Cat. They would then go on to fight the enemy, Skeletor.
8. My name is Inspector Gadget. I have a niece named Penny, but I forgot her dog's name, could you help me?

Answer: Brain

"Inspector Gadget" came out in 1983 and was voiced by Don Adams from "Get Smart". Like Maxwell Smart, Gadget was not very smart and always solved the cases by sheer luck. Most of the time, it was Penny and Brain who cracked the case first. Gadget worked for Chief Quimby, and his primary foe was a man named Doctor Claw. Doctor Claw had a pet cat named M.A.D. Cat.
9. Hi, my name is Lucy and my brother is Tom. Our parents are Frank and Helen. There are some others too, but do you know our last name?

Answer: Little

"The Littles" premiered in 1983 and was based on the children's novels by John Peterson. The Littles were tiny people with tails who lived in Henry Bigg's house. Henry was one of the few regular-sized humans who ever saw the Little Family.
10. Hello, my name is Grumpy. I don't know why they always make me do this work. I have to do everything. Anyway, I live in Care-A-Lot with the other Care Bears. Do you know what's on my tummy?

Answer: Raincloud

"The Care Bears" first appeared on TV in 1985 and were based on Hallmark cards. They all had pictures on their stomachs. Grumpy was the blue bear with the raincloud, and as his name suggests, he was almost always in a bad mood. The sunshine was on a yellow bear named Funshine, who was the optimistic one.

The rainbow was on a pink bear named Cheer Bear, who was always happy. The comet was on a light blue bear named Wish Bear, who liked to make everyone's wish come true. They lived in clouds and had to watch the care-o-meter to make sure everything on Earth was going okay.

Their job was to make sure everyone cared about everyone else.
