These questions are based on children's tv programmes, mainly from the 1980s although some are from later. It is a fairly easy quiz, but I hope you still enjoy the nostalgia!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Around the World with Willy Fogg" what type of animal was Willy Fogg?

Answer: Lion

Willy Fogg was a lion - the creation of the Spanish based producers BRB Internacional. They created 26 episodes based on the Jules Verne novel "Around the World in 80 days."
2. In "Bagpuss" where do the mice come from?

Answer: Marvellous Mechanical Mouse Organ

The mice were the decoration on the Marvellous Mechanical Mouse Organ, which plays rolls of music, and projects a picture onto the screen, like a television. They liked to play tricks on Yaffle, and always like to sing together while they are working.
3. "Trumpton" features six fireman (excluding Captain Flack), but which name was shared by two of them?

Answer: Pugh

When the fire alarm sounded, Captain Flack would do a roll call of his crew - "Pugh, Pugh, Barney Magrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb".
4. In "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds" what colour was Dogtanian's tunic?

Answer: Red

First broadcast in the UK in 1985, "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds" was another BRB Internacional creation. Based on "The Three Musketeers", this was a great cartoon to get kids interested in the story.
5. In "Jamie and the Magic Torch", what children's playground 'ride' did Jamie have to use to get to his adventure?

Answer: Helter Skelter

After Jamie went to bed, he would use his magic torch to transport himself and his dog Wordsworth to an adventure. He would go through the hole in the floor and down the helter skelter, and have his adventure without his mum knowing he had gone. Watching the programme now I do wonder why the helter skelter never led to the downstairs of his house!
6. What was the everyday name and occupation of "Hong Kong Phooey"?

Answer: Penry the Janitor

Hong Kong Phooey was really Penry the Janitor. His alter-ego worked for the Police Department with Sergeant Flint and Rosemary the Operator. (Boy, the police force was certainly understaffed in those days!) The truth of the show is the Hong Kong Phooey never actually solved the crimes, he was just a hopeless super hero. His cat Spot always used to solve them for him.
7. In "Rainbow" what was the name of the human that appeared alongside Zippy, Bungle and George, excluding the first season?

Answer: Geoffrey

Although Geoffrey was probably one of the most patronising people on children's TV in the '80s, he certainly managed to keep Zippy in check. Zippy was a sulky and spoilt yellow 'thing' with a rugby ball shaped head; Bungle was a brown bear who always thought he knew best, and George was a pink hippo with an incredibly annoying voice.
8. There was something special about "She-ra" - what was it?

Answer: She was the Princess of Power

"She-ra the Princess of Power", along with "He-man and the Masters of the Universe" are probably very poor cartoons by today's standards. However they were very popular in the mid-80's when they were on the television, and there were 93 episodes of 'She-ra' alone.
9. In the mid-90's, the BBC released the "Teletubbies". What colours were they?

Answer: Purple, Yellow, Green and Red

Appealing to very small children, the "Teletubbies", along with Noo-noo the vacuum cleaner, live in Teletubbyland. Speaking 'baby talk' and carrying handbags, they caused uproar with parents and teachers alike because they felt that it was not educational.

However "Teletubbies" seem to have been quite a hit and has been shown in the UK on the BBC digital channel CBeebies, which is aimed primarily at the Under-5's.
10. In "Wacky Races" what were the names of the 'criminal' duo who also starred in "Catch the Pigeon"?

Answer: Dick Dastardly and Mutley

Dick Dastardly and Mutley used to cheat to try and win the "Wacky Races". Their plan never worked and most of the time they came off all the worse for it. This show originally aired in the 1960s, it took off again and was very popular for a short spell in the mid 1980s.
