Michael came to town in 1995 and worked as a History teacher at Pine Valley High School. It was during one session on The Holocaust when he explained to his students how the Third Reich forced gay Jews to don a pink triangle on their clothes. He stated that would have happened to him had he resided in Germany during The Holocaust since he was gay.

As soon as he said this, a student walked out of class.

Michael was upset when the principal of Pine Valley High School said the School Board decided to terminate his position. Michael figured it had to do with his announcing to the class he was gay since he had been given good reviews by staff and faculty on his teaching and many of his students loved him. Michael once commented that it was easy to fire him since he had not been granted tenure.

He took action and filed a lawsuit against the School Board for wrongful termination and Trevor Dillon agreed to take his case. Michael was victorious in his lawsuit.

Dixie had an interest in teaching so she worked as Michael's teaching assistant while he instructed his class on several teaching lessons, such as ones from the mid 20th century. When the school principal told Michael the School Board was concerned that Michael was pushing his lifestyle onto the class, Dixie stepped in to explain to the principal how she witnessed Michael telling the class of his sexual orientation but it only consisted as a footnote to the lesson at hand.

The principal told both Michael and Dixie he understood their points but was powerless to overturn the board's decision to fire Michael.

When "All My Children" brought Laura Kirk English back to town in late 2000, she and Bianca struck up a friendship while they attended Pine Valley High School. This confused many fans since Laura was in high school from the mid to late 1990s. Bianca outed herself in early 2001 as a lesbian and this caused several of her classmates to torment her at high school. Three girls, named Mindy, Shannon and Heather, humiliated Bianca one day when she opened her locker and noticed nude pictures of Laura Kirk English plastered all over it.

The girls accessed the pictures on the internet since Laura once posed nude for Jim Thomasen in the mid 1990s and he placed them there.

JR made friends with a couple of people while he attended high school in the year 2000 and they formed a band called Dream Street (this was the name of the band which JR's portrayer, Jesse McCartney, was a member of in real life). The administrators of Pine Valley High School thought it would be a good idea to let the band perform one day. During the performance, Dream Street sang a song called, "Gotta Get the Girl". David and Dixie watched the performance in the audience at the school.

Lily, Jack's autistic daughter and Reggie's sister by adoption, was mainstreamed into Pine Valley High School and Reggie and Danielle promised Jack they would look out for her. Reggie and Danielle disapproved of three girls who called themselves "The Hot Girls" becoming friends with Lily since they knew they were bad news.

The two encouraged Lily not to be friends with them but she avoided their warnings. Lily eventually saw "The Hot Girls" as mean spirited, spiteful girls and broke off her friendship with them.

Henry and Maggie became friends while they took an organic chemistry class as part of their pre-med program at Pine Valley University and Maria Santos was one of the other students in the course. Maria was a nurse's assistant at the time and wanted to advance her education even though she previously worked as a doctor before she was presumed dead in a plane crash from August/1997.

As she came back to town with amnesia, she forgot most of her medical school knowledge and was unable to get her physician's license. Once Maria regained her memory in May/2003, she quit the pre-med program and studied for several months to take the test to become a licensed doctor.

She passed the exam and began working as a doctor again in late 2003. The first patient she operated on was Carlos Reyes.

Dixie had a dream to become a social worker so she enrolled at Pine Valley University in 1995 to begin a program with an emphasis on social work. One day, she spoke to Palmer and Bobby about wanting to be a social worker but that she was also keeping her options open for anything else which may interest her.

She informed them she was also taking an education course for the semester. Dixie liked the education course enough that she changed her mind and wanted to study to become a teacher.

Angie was a student at Pine Valley High School in the early 1980s and befriended Tad Martin, Jenny Gardener and Jesse Hubbard while there (She and Jesse would eventually become lovers). Other classmates of hers were Liza Colby and Amanda Cousins. Angie enrolled in an accelerated program which allowed her to finish high school earlier than most other students.

It was just four years later when Angie began practicing medicine as a physician at Pine Valley Hospital.
