Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Commander Tucker acquire his nickname, 'Trip'?

Answer: For being the third Charles Tucker (III = triple).

Tucker first joined Starfleet in the year 2139 and spent many years working with Captain Archer prior to their assignment to the Enterprise NX-01. The ship was launched in the year 2151 with Tucker assigned as her first Chief Engineer.

Question by reedy
2. In which current-day US state did Charles Tucker III grow up?

Answer: Florida

We are told in the episodes "Strange New World" and "Fusion" that Charles Tucker grew up in Panama City, Florida and some of his family continued to live there.

By the time Enterprise was launched, Earth had a single government, hence the use of current-day US state in the question. Some "Next Generation" episodes have, however, alluded to the continued existence of some current-day nations and unions within the United Earth government.

Question by Daddy19
3. When Trip is badly injured, Phlox suggests the only way of saving him is by creating a mimetic symbiont (or clone) of the chief engineer. What was the clone called?

Answer: Sim

Phlox needed brain tissue to be able to transplant into Trip, however Sim, having grown to maturity within a couple of days, was unable to survive the transplant that would save Tucker's life.

Question by Daddy19
4. When the Xindi attacked Earth during the second season of "Enterprise", which member of Tucker's family was killed?

Answer: His sister Lizzie

Elizabeth Tucker was an architect living in Florida when the Xindi attacked in March of 2153. She was one of over seven million people killed in the attack. The loss affected Trip greatly, and for some time he had trouble sleeping. T'Pol helped him through this with the use of Vulcan neuropressure sessions.

Question by reedy
5. Trip was a fan of 20th century movies, even establishing a weekly movie night aboard the Enterprise NX-01. Which trio of films did he declare were the "three greatest horror movies ever"?

Answer: "Frankenstein", "Bride of Frankenstein", and "Son of Frankenstein"

Trip liked the Frankenstein monster so much, he even had a miniature figure in his quarters. In the second season episode "Horizon", Trip convinces T'Pol to come to a screening of "Frankenstein" and she is suitably impressed with the film, seeing it as a parallel to the Vulcans' arrival on Earth.

Question by reedy
6. Charles Tucker III first met Jonathan Archer whilst working on the warp 2 NX project.

Answer: True

During this assignment, Lieutenant Tucker was working under Captain Jefferies as an engineer. When NX-Alpha was destroyed, the Vulcan Advisory Council claimed that the design was flawed, however Tucker believed it was pilot error. He subsequently assisted Archer and Robinson to steal the NX-Beta and confirm the design of the ship was sound.

Question by Daddy19
7. The third season episode "E^2" saw the crew of the Enterprise NX-01 encounter a much older version of itself under the command of a Captain Lorian. He claimed to be the son of Tucker and T'Pol.

Answer: True

Lorian claimed that the choice by the crew to use a Xindi subspace corridor went wrong and they were sent back in time to the year 2037 (117 years in the past). Tucker and T'Pol wed in a traditional Vulcan ceremony and honeymooned in Cargo Bay 3 (decorated with sand from an asteroid and a manufactured palm tree).

Question by reedy
8. In one of the early episodes of "Enterprise", Tucker became pregnant. With which species had they just made first contact when this occurred?

Answer: Xyrillians

In the episode "Unexpected", Trip spent some time aboard the Xyrillian ship to try and repair it. Humans hadn't encountered anything like the Xyrillian mating ritual previously, which is why Trip didn't realise anything untoward was happening.

Subsequently in the episode "Oasis", T'Pol referred back to this incident, which prompted Tucker to comment that she was never going to let him forget it.

The Takret appeared in the second season episode "The Catwalk", The Tandarans in the first season episode "Detained" and of course the Andorrians recurred throughout the run of "Enterprise".

Question by Daddy19
9. Tucker transferred off the Enterprise NX-01 to serve on the Columbia NX-02.

Answer: True

The transfer was a short-lived one. Tucker initially took the new posting due to the conflict of working with T'Pol and the feelings that he had for her. Only two episodes later, he returned to the Enterprise NX-01 to stay.

Question by reedy
10. Tucker died aboard Enterprise saving the ship from intruders. Whose daughter had they just rescued?

Answer: Shran

It was quite a surprise for the crew of Enterprise when Shran contacted them in "These are The Voyages..." as they believed that he had died three years earlier. Shran wasn't sure who he could trust and had therefore faked his own death.

Shran kept count of the amount of favours owed to him by Archer and appealed to him to assist in the rescue of his daughter.
