Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first scene opens upon Bran as he's practising archery in Winterfell's courtyard and he follows a raven. What two things are unusual about this scenario?

Answer: Bran walks and a 3 eyed raven

Obviously it's a dream since Bran is now abed, no longer able to use his legs due to the fall from the tower.
2. When Bran wakes from his dream, Theon Greyjoy enters telling Bran that he must go with him to see Robb. A lumbering man servant is called in named Hodor. Theon tells Hodor to carry Bran. How does Hodor respond to all of his commands?

Answer: "Hodor"

Hodor is Old Nan's great grandson and all he can ever say is his name. Actually Hodor is the only word he knows his real name is Walder.
3. At the Red Keep, Ned is talking to Grand Maester Pycelle about Jon Arryn, the previous Hand of the King. Pycelle tells Ned that Arryn was interested in a book. Ned wants to read it and Pycelle reluctantly gives it to him. What was the title of the book Ned wanted to read?

Answer: Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the 7 Kingdoms

"A ponderous read", Grand Maester Pycelle proclaims. It contains information on all of the Kings' families in the Seven Kingdoms from the beginning with descriptions, including their wives and children.
4. Finally we get to the joust that's been spoken of that Ned is against. Sansa and Arya are watching and they see a large black armoured knight appear on the field. He's known as "The Mountain". Who is he in reality?

Answer: Gregor Clegane

"The Mountain" is the older brother to "The Hound". Ser Gregor is one knight who has never been defeated in any tourney and he's about to take on a new knight.
5. Before the joust begins Sansa and Arya are in the presence of Lord Baelish. Arya demands to know something from Baelish and bluntly asks him, "Why are you called _____"?

Answer: Littlefinger

He's called "Littlefinger", as he explains, because when he was a boy he was little and because he comes from a spit of land called "The Fingers". Hence, "Littlefinger".
6. After Septa Mordane berates Arya for her bluntness to Littlefinger, Sansa is told by Baelish the story of how "The Hound" got burned. What happened?

Answer: Gregor held him into a fireplace.

Sibling rivalry here. "The Mountain" caught "The Hound" playing with one of his toys, a wooden knight, when they were younger. Gregor held Sandor's head into the fireplace and Sandor screamed while his face melted. Littlefinger warns Sansa never to let "The Hound" know that she knows of the tale. Otherwise he could possibly kill her and no knight would be able to save her.
7. The joust finally begins and the other knight, Ser Hugh of the Vale, is tragically killed during the second run. How is Ser Hugh killed after the second run?

Answer: A piece of lance through the throat

A large splinter section of "The Mountain's" lance pierces Ser Hugh's throat and he chokes to death on his blood. For sharp-eyed viewers during this scene, because of the fake blood used and its flavouring, a wasp is briefly seen buzzing the actor playing Ser Hugh.
8. Ned has received the book from Pycelle. He reveals that Arryn may've been poisoned. Then, Pycelle reveals Jon Arryn's last words. What were the last words of the previous Hand if you can remember?

Answer: "The seed is strong"

Ned has no idea what those last words mean and when he reads the Lineages, there is no doubt that he'll find his answer to that question when he gets to the section about the Baratheon's.
9. Ned is told to visit a smithy in King's Landing. He may have some clues to what he wants to know. He meets the smithy's apprentice. What's the name of the apprentice?

Answer: Gendry

Gendry is the name of the smithy's apprentice. He's built quite well and has short dark hair. Ned looks him over and wants to talk to the lad.
10. When Ned sees the beautiful Bull's head helm that Gendry forged, he asks to look a bit more closely at him. He notices his dark hair and piercing blue eyes. What does Ned tell Jory about this apprentice?

Answer: He's Robert's bastard son.

Ned realises that Gendry is one of Robert Baratheon's bastard sons. Something isn't kosher or doesn't sit well with Ned since Robert is dark haired and Joffrey is blonde.
