Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Vorenus took the head of this man after learning that he had taken his children.

Answer: Erastes Fulmen

After Vorenus found out Lucius wasn't his son and caused Niobe to commit suicide as a result, he cursed his children to Hades and left. While he was gone, Fulmen came by and collected them along with Niobe's sister Lyde. Fulmen told Vorenus that he "raped them", killed them and threw them in the river. Actually, he sold them into slavery.
2. Early in the series, Pullo and Vorenus are fighting with Caesar in Gaul. What was the battle?

Answer: Alesia

It was the final defeat of the Gauls and Vercingetorix. There were roughly 30 miles of breastworks built to wall in Vercingetorix and wall out other Galic armies.
3. What item was stolen from Caesar that Pullo and Vorenus successfully recovered?

Answer: His standard

Pompey Magnus arranged for this to happen to demoralize Caesar's troops, thinking it would appear as a bad omen to them. It backfired when Pullo and Vorenus recovered it and found Pompey's man in possession of it.
4. Other than Posca, who was the only person to know Caesar suffered from epilepsy?

Answer: Octavian

One of the reasons Caesar was fond of Octavian and ultimately named him as his heir was his ability to keep this secret.
5. Who said "You have lost Rome without ever drawing your sword"?

Answer: Cato

Pompey's troops were too far from Rome to defend it from Caesar, as he was following Roman law disallowing standing armies in or near Rome. Caesar was able to take Rome with only one legion because of it.
6. Caesar's personal legion was the what?

Answer: 13th

The 13th was Caesar's personal and his army's most proficient legion.
7. After losing a battle for the Aventine and having his tongue bit out by Pullo, he was kept in a cage "as an example to the others".

Answer: Memmio

Memmio eventually got out of his cage and was killed in a fight with Pullo and Gaia.
8. She poisoned Eirene to cause her miscarriage and death so she could have Pullo.

Answer: Gaia

She admitted what she had done to Pullo on her death bed (as a result of the fight with Memmio) and Pullo strangled her.
9. Octavia was forced to divorce this man so she could be offered to Pompey Magnus as a replacement wife for Julia. He later met an ill fate at the hands of Timon by Atia's request.

Answer: Glabius

Ultimately, Pompey rejected Octavia as his next wife (he didn't trust Atia, Octavia's mother and Caesar's niece) and Octavia and Glabius continued to meet in secret.
10. He had an affair with Niobe and was the true father of Vorenus's grandson Lucius.

Answer: Evander

Pullo and Octavian found out about the deceit and took Evander into the sewers where they killed him to avenge Vorenas and to keep him from ever finding out the secret.
