Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why did Pullo's new wife want to leave Vorenus's house?

Answer: The house was cursed

She believed that if they stayed and made a baby, it would be a monster. Vorenus was upset because he believed he caused Caesar and Niobe's deaths.
2. How did Antony describe Cleopatra?

Answer: skinny

Atia was jealous because she didn't want Antony making love to women who were higher (in society) than herself. Antony claimed it was because Cleopatra was younger than Atia. Atia said she didn't mind Antony's whores, but Cleopatra did make her jealous.
3. Why did Cleopatra come to Rome?

Answer: Mourn Caesar and have her son recognized as his heir

Cleopatra promised to guarantee 10 grain shipments a month to Rome. When Antony agreed, she added one more thing: public recognition of Caesarion's parentage.

Antony claimed the people wouldn't like it. Cleopatra promised Antony her eternal gratitude if he agreed. Antony tried to kiss Cleopatra twice, but she hit him. He said Cleopatra had nice manners - for a whore. Cleopatra claimed that if she were a whore, the customer pays first (Antony needed to give the public recognition first).
4. What did Antony claim Posca had found?

Answer: List of names of public offices

Posca was accused of having been paid off. Antony claimed the list was written by Caesar before he died.
5. Why did Vorenus tell Antony that he hadn't killed himself yet?

Answer: Death was his master and wanted him to suffer

Antony told Vorenus that Vorenus was responsible for Caesar's death, then, not being content with that, he killed Erastes, starting a war.

Antony asked if Vorenus wanted redemption.
6. Why did Servilia come to the party in honor of Cleopatra?

Answer: Antony insisted she attend

Octavian believed that Antony wanted a show of unity for the Egyptians. Octavian also believed that Atia was going to have Servilia killed as she left. A plan that Antony didn't know about. So Octavian, being the good son, went and told Antony. Octavian believed the political situation was tenuous and Atia would make things worse by killing Servilia.
7. Who did Cleopatra bring to Atia's party?

Answer: Caesarion

Cleopatra claimed Caesarion looked just like Caesar. Antony replied that the resemblance was uncanny. Atia, however, said Caesarion looked nothing like his supposed father. Which was true, as we know the child was actually sired by Pullo.

Upon saying goodbye, Atia told Cleopatra she was a trollop.
8. Why did Timon's wife claim she hadn't made Timon's brother dinner?

Answer: not kosher

Timon claimed that already he wasn't good enough for his brother. His brother would later get Timon involved in a murder plot. Timon claimed his brother hated Rome and Romans and asked him why he came.
9. Who called all the captains together?

Answer: Vorenus

It's implied that Antony's idea for Vorenus to redeem himself was to bring together all the captains of the Aventine and keep them peaceful. (There was a gang war that was causing Antony problems.)

Vorenus claimed to be captain of the Aventine Collegium since he'd killed Erastes. Vorenus told the captains that Antony would pay off the gangs with 5,000 Dinari as long as they didn't have violence and left politics and trade alone.

Vorenus claimed to be a Son of Hades to get the captains to follow him.
10. Why did Antony say he didn't want to give the plebes the money promised to them in Caesar's will?

Answer: They'd want more

Antony wasn't letting Octavian have the money that was promised to him in the will. Atia told Octavian not to force the issue - if Octavian drove Antony away, who would protect them? Octavian hired a lawyer to get Caesar's money and made a statement that he had sold all his property to honor Caesar. Octavian gave the plebes their money without Antony's assent, which Antony claimed would be a direct affront toward himself.
11. How did Octavian get the money to pay the plebes?

Answer: He borrowed it

Antony and Atia fought with Antony - especially when they found out how much money Octavian had borrowed. Antony got particularly upset when Octavian hit Atia, and again after Octavian called her a whore.
12. Who was Gaia?

Answer: Prostitute supervisor hired by Pullo

Gaia claimed not to be a prostitute, but would supervise the girls and keep the customers in line. She went on to marry Pullo - after killing Pullo's wife. She wanted every 1 of 500 coins that came from the brothel, her own room, and food.
13. Atia went off with Antony after his fight with Octavian.

Answer: True

Antony was winning the fight - he tried dunking Octavian's head in water and choked him, among other things. Atia was eventually able to pull Antony off and went away with him, Octavia stayed with her brother.

Octavian decided to leave home. He went south and started to raise an army.
14. Why did Servilia rejoice in hearing about the fight between Antony and Octavian?

Answer: It showed their relationship was deteriorating

Servilia thought that Brutus would be able to return, but was told to wait and see how things developed.
15. Where do we find Vorenus's children in this episode?

Answer: In a slave cart

The very last scene shows the children in a slave cart as Octavian and his men pass. They would later end up at a slave mart - the oldest daughter working as a whore and the youngest two working in a kitchen.
