Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the pilot episode, "AKA As Ladies Night", we saw that Jessica worked as what?

Answer: Private investigator

Jessica had a special talent for finding the dirt her clients asked for, even when they really didn't want to know. One of her first seen cases was for a man who wanted to know what his wife was up to, but didn't want to hear the truth. She was sleeping with his brother, and when he tried to rough up Jessica, she sent him through the glass of her home office door. Her business was called Alias Investigations, and that door suffered more than once in season one.

Fans may remember Krysten Ritter from her roles on "Breaking Bad" and "Don't Trust the B in Apt 23".
2. Jessica became intimately involved with another "gifted" person, Luke Cage. When they exchanged stories about how they came across their gifts, what did he tell her that his gift was?

Answer: He was unbreakable

Jessica had super strength. Over the course of season one, viewers discovered that it happened after an accident that killed her parents and younger brother. She survived it, and her hospitals bills were paid by a mysterious research company called IGH. Luke said he got his unbreakable skin in an experiment, Jess told him that hers was "an accident".

Mike Colter played Luke. Mike's image and voice also appear in the video game "Halo 5: Guardians" as Spartan Locke. It was announced that in 2016 he'd appear in a series about Luke called "Luke Cage", so the "Halo" franchise released him from further commitment to the games.
3. Jessica, and the rest of humanity, was threatened by a villain from her past. He called himself Kilgrave. Was it true that his power was mind control?

Answer: Yes

Kilgrave's real name was Kevin Thompson. He developed mind control in 1985 during a series of experiments done on him by his parents, who were scientists. He felt like a lab rat, but they claimed he'd been born with a disease that would kill him, so the tests were to save his life. It was never revealed what the truth was, but moral ambiguity is a basic theme in the world of super heroes and villains. Kilgrave himself didn't think he was a villain, though Jessica did her best to convince him that he was one. He made her kill Luke's wife, but that act also restored her free will. She walked away from him, despite his insistence that she stay, and he was hit by a bus. She thought he'd died, but no such luck. It took Jess a while to admit to Luke that she'd killed his wife.

David Tennant played Kilgrave. He may be most recognizable as his stint as the Doctor in several "Doctor Who" offerings. He also played Barty Crouch, Jr. in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".
4. Jessica's best friend was also her adoptive sister Patricia Walker. Going by Trish now, what was her career?

Answer: Radio host

Trish was once a famous child actor with her own series called "It's Patsy!" Trish's mom was an abusive "momager" (mom and manager). After Jessica's family died in the car accident, Dorothy Walker adopted 14 year old Jessica as a publicity stunt. While living with Dorothy and Trish, Jess discovered her enhanced strength.

Rebecca De Mornay played Dorothy. And, anytime she became emotional I would flash back to her role in "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle".
5. Played by "Matrix" star Carrie-Ann Moss, who was the morally ambiguous lawyer Jessica would sometimes work for, who was also divorcing her wife Wendy?

Answer: Jeri Hogarth

Jeri was a shark. She was partnered with two other lawyers in their own firm. When she fell in love with Pam, her assistant, she decided to divorce Wendy, who'd supported her through law school. Jeri decided to use Kilgrave to force Wendy to sign the divorce papers, but that backfired on her. He made Wendy attack Jeri, and Pam was forced to kill Wendy to save her. Wendy was played by Robin Weigert.

Patty Hewes was the lawyer played by Glenn Close on the series "Damages", Rebecca Wright was played by Kate Walsh on the short lived series "Bad Judge", and JoAnne Galloway was a lawyer played by Demi Moore in the film "A Few Good Men".
6. Kilgrave used one of Jessica's neighbors to spy on her for him. Which neighbor was it who Kilgrave turned into a drug addict and personal photographer?

Answer: Malcolm

Malcolm was on his way to becoming a social worker when Kilgrave compelled him to become a spy. He forced him onto drugs as well, so that Malcolm would always need him, as Kilgrave's mind control only lasted for 12 hours without hearing him speak again. His powers grew later in the season. When Jessica figured out Malcolm had been spying on her, she saved him from Kilgrave's influence and helped him get clean. And, even though he had decided to go back home and leave New York, in the end Malcolm was still by her side. Robyn and Reuben were the twins who lived above Jess, and Kilgrave made Reuben kill himself in Jessica's bed. Malcolm helped get rid of the body to stop Jessica from turning herself in for the murder. She did it anyway, but Kilgrave compelled the cops to let her go.

Hope was the college student who'd been Kilgrave's prisoner in the series premier. After Jessica freed her, Hope shot her parents to death as Kilgrave wanted. Jessica did not want Kilgrave dead while Hope was charged with murder. But, Hope sacrificed her life so that Jess was free to kill him.
7. Whose apartment did Sargent Will Simpson go to in order to kill that individual?

Answer: Trish's

There was an incident in the lobby of Trish's apartment where Trish had attacked a man she thought was going to hurt her. He was a Patsy fan and wanted an autograph, but it was mostly likely one of Kilgrave's zombies. So, even though she was highly reluctant to do so, and tried every way to avoid it, she allowed Sargent Will Simpson into her highly secured apartment. He tried to kill her, but Jess saved her. When he got his free will back, he apologized to Trish profusely and the pair began a sexual relationship. It turned out that Will had secrets of his own. He had been part of some IGH related drug testing himself. When he became badly injured in the Kilgrave hunt (a bomb went off), he allowed himself back on the drugs. They made him super strong, he felt no pain, and he became a hyper focused killing machine. He came to Jess's apartment to kill her later in the season, as she was "in his way" of killing Kilgrave. His fate was unknown at the end of season one.

Wil Traval played Simpson.
8. What part of Reuben's body did Jessica bring into the police department in order to get them to believe her murder confession?

Answer: Head

Her plan was to do something so awful she'd be locked up in super max prison. Neither Malcolm nor Trish liked that plan at all, so Malcolm took his body and dumped it in the river while Trish cleaned up blood. Jess dove into the water, ripped off his head, and did it anyway, dumping Reuben's head onto Detective Clemmon's desk. Clemmons did not believe she did it, and Kilgrave arrived in time to stop any incarceration. Reuben's death led to a friendship between his twin sister Robyn and Malcolm.

Kieran Mulcare played sweet as pie, love sick, Reuben. And, Colby Minifie played the cantankerous and bitter Robyn.
9. Who detonated an explosion inside Luke's bar as Jessica watched?

Answer: Luke

Luke had been gone for awhile, after learning the truth about his wife's death. But, he'd also been following Jessica. He found Kilgrave, and when Kilgrave learned that Luke and Jessica were lovers, he compelled Luke to create an explosion in the bar. The bar had been in Vera's name to protect Luke's secret, and it was his last piece left of her. Kilgrave's powers had been growing, so he had contact with Luke over the phone, which kept Luke under his spell. Previously, a phone call would not have worked. The plot to get Jess where he wanted did work, but when he saw he still could not affect her, he told Luke to kill her. The fight was epic, and in the end Jess had to put a shotgun under his chin and pull the trigger. It did no outside damage, but did cause brain trauma. With the help of a nurse, who was familiar with gifted people, Luke's life was saved.

Rosario Dawson played nurse Claire.. Hopefully she'll be back for a season two.
10. In the season finale, "AKA Smile", Jessica and Trish came up with what code word or phrase to use, so Trish would know Kilgrave had no effect on Jess?

Answer: I love you

Before her final confrontation with a much more powerful Kilgrave, Jess said they should come up with a code. It had to be something Jess would never normally say, so that Trish would know she was unaffected. So, in the end, Jess pretended to be back within his control. He did not believe her, so he threatened to take Trish away with him. When Jess totally followed through, making no move to stop him, he believed he'd won. He walked up to her and told her to tell him that she loved him. So, she looked right at Trish and said "I love you". Trish had been under his influence, so she was visibly relieved when she heard it. Jessica lifted Kilgrave up by his throat, and broke his neck. She was arrested for the murder, but Jeri convinced the police to let her go.

Rachael Taylor played Trish. She also played Dr. Lucy Fields on "Grey's Anatomy" and Agent Susie Dunn on the series "Crisis".
