"Last Man Standing" 1.5 Trivia Quiz

Mandy is filling out college applications so Mike and Vanessa get involved in a contest to see which alma mater she should attend. At one point Mike begins to sing Michigan's fight song so Vanessa begins to sing Ohio States. The theme of the rivalry between the schools and therefore between Mike and Vanessa will continue to play throughout the series.

Mike is trying to inspire the sales force to push the compound bows and says he wants the forests of Colorado to look like a scene out of "Braveheart". Kyle has no clue what "Braveheart" is but he does know Mel Gibson was in "What Women Want". Mike tells him he needs to Butch it up a bit considering it's bow season.

The vote to allow co-ed softball wins by one vote and Mike voted for it because he has three daughters. Kyle also voted for it and was happy when it passed but he could get none of the other guys to admit they voted for it. Ed swears he will track down everyone who voted for co-ed softball even though it was a secret ballot.

When Mike brings Eve in to see Ed because she will be playing on the team, Ed is working on a board to figure out who voted for co-ed softball. Mike tells Ed Eve is all league in three sports and Ed calls her Eve of destruction. When Eve leaves Mike asks Ed if his witch hunt isn't a little against the spirit of a secret ballot. Ed then says he can't help it because he is Basque and the Basque are known for two things - delicious smoked meats and revenge. Ed is using psychological profiling and hand writing analysis to figure out who voted which way.

Mike talks to Vanessa who does not like the idea of Eve playing on the team because she is only 13 but Eve loves the idea. At the team meeting she asks if she can pitch, the position Mike has traditionally played. Ed has her throw a pitch and she nails it so he lets her pitch.

She proves to be very good and although Mike acts like he is sulking, he tells Vanessa he was proud of every pitch Eve threw.

When Vanessa looks at the essay Mandy has for her college applications she sees it is about Virginia Woolf and she knows Mandy did not write it because that is Kristin's favorite author. Vanessa tells Mike then confronts Mandy. Mandy tries to act like it is her essay then Mike asks her to spell Woolf. She cannot so she comes clean.

Mandy discarded the Virginia Woolf essay and wrote her own about Kristin. She pointed out how even though Kristin is very busy working and raising Boyd, she always is there when you need her. She willingly steps up to help out. Vanessa and Mike read the essay and are very moved by it.

Answer: Pluto is no longer a planet.

When Mike starts tearing up over Mandy's essay about Kristin he tries to hide then says he is upset because Pluto is no longer a planet. Vanessa is openly crying but being macho, Mike cannot do that so he comes up with this half-baked excuse. No one buys it.

Answer: Beaned a player from the other team.

Ed figures out that Mike was the deciding vote to go co-ed but he is not mad at Mike or the fact Eve joined the team because the moment Eve beaned the player from the other team was the greatest sports moment of his life. Eve knocked the player's tooth out and he says to Eve, "It's just a game little girl." Mike and Ed cannot stop laughing thinking about it.

Answer: More food for him

At the end of the show Kristin decides she wants to go back to college part time and Mike already has picked out four colleges within an hour's drive of the house. Kristin looks at the colleges and sees one of the essay questions is which historic figure you would like to have dinner with. Without missing a beat Mike answers Gandhi because there would be more food for him. Gandhi was famous for hunger strikes and non-violence in opposing British rule of India but Mike focuses on the food angle.
