"Lost": A Quiz "In Translation"

At the beginning of the episode, in Jin's flashback, he was nervously requesting permission from Sun's father to marry her. He mentioned that although he was from a fishing village he had ambitions to open a restaurant and own a hotel. When asked to give up his dream for Sun, Jin said that she was his dream.

On their wedding day, Jin came to see Sun as she stood in her wedding dress. Jin promised they would have their honeymoon in six months, after he finished management training for Mr. Paik's car company. Already he seemed more dedicated to her father than their marriage, but really it was all for her. Jin gave Sun a flower as a promise for the honeymoon she had dreamed of.

Michael was hurt when, after trying to protect Sun from Jin, she turned on him. Sun later came when Michael was working on the raft to apologize. She told Michael that she had slapped him to protect him from Jin, because he didn't know what Jin was capable of. Michael was still angry and told Sun that Jin was her problem, not his.

Michael was attacking Jin, who he believed had burned his raft, and Jin was talking to Sun in Korean. Michael was infuriated and about to punch Jin when Sun yelled out, "Stop it! He didn't burn your raft!" The beach fell silent, and Charlie was the first to say, "You speak English?" Hurley muttered that he didn't see that coming, Jack asked why she had never told them she understood, Sawyer accused her of lying, and Jin said nothing.

It seemed that their rivalry was at least temporarily put to rest when, at the end of the episode, Michael was trying to rebuild his raft and Jin came by with an armful of branches. He turned to Michael, said "boat", and Michael followed him down the beach.

Locke came to play the game with Walt, mentioning that they had not played in awhile. Walt told him that Hurley already owed him $83,000 dollars. He asked about Locke's dad, and Locke asked Walt a surprising question: why did he burn the raft down? Walt was quiet at first, but revealed that he liked the island and didn't want to keep moving. Locke agreed that he liked the island as well, and promised not to tell Michael.

Another surprise was revealed when Jin, who had told Sun and her father that his father was dead, walked down a fishing dock and approached a man behind a large straw hat- his father. Jin begged for his father's forgiveness after being to ashamed to admit he was even alive. His father urged Jin to let the delivery be the last thing he did for Sun's father. Go to America, he urged. Save your marriage and start over.
Sun asked him to start over and go back to the beginning on the island, and Jin hesitated before saying it was too late. Sun was devastated, yet seemed happy to be free.

Locke shouted that none of them would burn the raft and block an intent to get home. The problem is not here, he said, but there- in the jungle. Locke said that they should be more concerned with those "others" who had sabotaged, murdered, abducted, and attacked them. "We are not the only people on this island," he said, "And we all know it."

Shannon had come through the jungle looking to blame Boone for her problems. Locke was carving his dinner, and asked Shannon about her and Sayid. He told her that it was time to start her new life (and she listened). It seemed that there were many who wanted to make a fresh start to life in this episode. Jin told his father that he wished he could start over, and Sun told Jin the same. Michael and Walt were prepared to start over on the raft together.

Michael's raft was nearly finished at the beginning of the episode. Jack was impressed as Michael told him about the deck, cabin (made from a piece of the fuselage), and even storage bins. There was only room for four people, and Sawyer had "bought himself a ticket" by giving Michael cables for the masts.
The question remained: Did Walt use fire, or his special powers to burn the raft?
Michael told Walt that he couldn't wait to take him to New York City to see the skyscrapers. Walt was less than enthusiastic at the time, but after the raft burned he offered to help "start over".
